If @Asmongold's WOW: Forever Olympus guild was a government agency, it would outnumber the CIA and the Secret Service combined. 🏛️🎮
But what if it keeps growing? I built an interactive scale calculator to see just how massive this WoW Forever phenomenon actually is.
Slide the scale and see what 30,000+ players really looks like with real world data! https://t.co/6CirUeT83S
Before becoming Hollywood’s firm-but-fair grandad, ex-Marine Wilford Brimley was Howard Hughes' real-life bodyguard.
While working as a blacksmith on film sets, he befriended Robert Duvall, who helped land him his first acting role.
Now this makes sense. Hughes chose well.
WoW Forever Beta: I wanted to share something that I hope might help returning players, something that clicked for me during the WoW: Forever beta. It didn’t come to me on my own, it came from a comment a friend made to me years ago. Let me explain.
Limited Flight Paths
A few hours into the beta I caught myself thinking, I wish there were more flight paths. I kept running to pick up quests, running to turn them in, and planning hearths so I wasn’t constantly backtracking across a zone I still barely knew.
I mentioned the sparse flight paths to my friend Joe recently, and thanked him because, he is the reason I eventually realized that this journeying was actually a good thing.
Divinity Original Sin
Years ago I tried Divinity: Original Sin and stalled out in minutes. I couldn’t finish anything. I complained to Joe that the game had no quest arrows, no little circles telling me where to go. Joe told me to try again — and to actually read the quests and their objectives. That was the game, he said.
I did. And I had a great time. What I realized was that games like Retail WoW had trained me not to think about actually solving quests. It had trained me not to think for myself.
The Forever Beta Journey
The flight-path situation in Forever is the same thing in a different skin.
Retail WoW trained me to expect instant travel from town to town. Don’t learn the map. Don’t worry about where you actually are. Just fly.
At first I disliked having to run the map. Then I started using the roads, remembering landmarks, and choosing hearths on purpose. The world got bigger instead of turning into a loading screen between objectives.
Years ago, Joe broke me out of that trance with Divinity and he did it again for me later during the Forever beta.
WOW Forever Does It Right
The Forever team implemented this flight mechanic right with limited travel and I’m glad they did — because the Journey is the Adventure.
@Twoxrod@TrustIsEarnd If you think for a second that the UK NatSec capabilities are on par with US budget, manpower, or our domestic agencies, you may be watching too much BBC.
@HowlingChief0@Grummz His financial and cultural impact could actually be far bigger than even that. Check out this calculator: https://t.co/a4WOCMoNqf
