There’s massive fallacy at the very start and heart of this story - no amount of new oil and gas from the North Sea can bring down the cost of living - global markets set the price, even when we make it here - not us. There is a way to fix that - fix the price of our own North Sea oil and gas using a CFD - the same kind we use for Green energy. This way we could also protect the jobs and remaining reserves and ensure a proper transition. Meanwhile we allow global gas prices to set the price we pay for our own wind and sun too - and that’s the single biggest reason our bills are so high, especially during an energy crisis.

To bring down our energy bills it’s essential that we ‘break the link’. A CFD for the North Sea will also lower bills and would at least make economic sense of new drilling - as it stands there is none.
