Appreciate the good people at MaRS for hearing me on the state of the music industry & the importance of artists/creators connecting direct to their communities. @DrropsApp @mitchellbutler
@disco_lu There was a wave of bespoke spacing like this for type and baseline grids. Libraries like styled-system and theme-ui still support scaled spacing, but I wonder what the workflow is like in Figma/Sketch. I imagine its a lot more effort than a fixed grid. https://t.co/w8ABfwDwTx
@antoniogm Worked out of one in London and it was similarly packed. Not a seat available. That said, I checked in at a WeWork NYC once and I get an email every other month with a ridiculous deal, like months for free.
@tipeveryday@markjharvey Looking at your hands is a common "reality check" for lucid dreamers since our brain is bad at rendering them (e.g., wrong number of fingers). I bet the hands turn out to be really difficult to get right without the model learning them symbolically like we do when we draw.
Most posts I've seen about ChatGPT understate the immediate threat to jobs. LLMs are already good enough that we should re-think dev bootcamp curriculum. If we want to keep the on-ramp open, we need to teach new devs to build automations and systems-thinking, not HTML/CSS.
@nkjessop 💯 using a design system is a huge accelerator for design-minded devs. I just can't chain 20 utility classes together without getting flashbacks. I've given into style props recently though and had a similar change of mind.
Gave Tailwind a shot. Feels a lot like the 2010s when BEM/SMACSS were hip, and it shares some of the same problems (that were solved by CSS pre-processors). The approach is sound, but I think I'll hang out under a rock until someone figures out how to make it legible.
We're now well into our 6mo+ of living in Airbnbs. Best tip so far: always book at least a month (e.g., the 1st to the 1st). Some great places are only available monthly, others discount as much as 40%. It's possible to live in some beautiful cities for Toronto rental prices.
@jwmares Hopefully, we can do something about noise pollution in cities too. I bet the health improvement from sleep would be massive. Here we are talking about "nutritional psychiatry" and folks are still rigging their cars to backfire because they think it sounds cool.
Plenty of surprises in Lisbon, but the most unexpected is the port on the recycling bins for old batteries. They’re all over Alfama. Wish I brought my bag of dead AAs from home I have no idea what to do with 🤷♂️
After a lot of self-tracking, I'm convinced that water impacts productivity more than caffeine. It's not just a health thing. Hitting your 3-4L a few days in a row will totally change your energy levels.
It’s funny how “band-aid solution” is supposed to mean “not enough of a solution.” If a system is self-healing, sometimes all it needs is some temporary attention and protection where it’s breached. Maybe if we stop over-engineering fixes, we'll end up with better systems.
Hope all are having a decent weekend. We're just under two weeks away from our E-commerce event. 3 short of 50 RSVPs. We're going to show you how to build quick e-commerce solutions! Join us. Link in the 📌 tweet!
