@kickflipindy @Doyle477493545 Haven't done it a lot but if you have some solder paste at hand (high quality) + a heat gun that might do the trick. Once it is liquid it will find its way.
You might not have a mechanically stable connection but using some spray coating afterw. will give at least some stability.

@hatr Just wild guessing here, but it could be related to a particular timing between states of the handshake, specific IP addresses that are used during establishment of the tunnel. Possible that proton implementation has some specific patterns when establishing connection.
