You’re mocking Cambodian village racing boats as if they’re meant to be like Thai Royal Barges. This centuries-old tradition belongs to the people not only for royal elites, and continues today as Bon Om Touk (បុណ្យអុំទូក). Pagodas and villages across Cambodia maintain their own longboats, and every year they come together to race in front of Royal palace for the pride of their communities.
The Mekong river originates in Tibet and runs through six countries in South-East-Asia.
"Mekong" is derived from "Me Kongkea" which means "Ma Ganga" (Mother Ganga) in the Khmer language.
Bet your history/geography textbooks didn't teach you that.
Phnom Penh ranked third in Condé Nast Traveler’s 2026 Best Big Cities list, behind Seoul and Tokyo.
I love me some Phnom Penh! I lived there for years when I first moved to Cambodia back in 2010, and I can certainly see the appeal.
These days, though, I much prefer smaller cities like Kampot. I still enjoy Phnom Penh in small doses, especially for a few days during a national holiday or when work takes me there. Beyond that, the traffic and congestion start wearing on me.
Still, nice to see Cambodia’s capital getting some recognition!

In Viet Nam, phở is a familiar part of everyday life, often enjoyed from early morning at neighbourhood shops and street-side stalls.
A bowl begins with flat rice noodles and a fragrant broth slowly simmered with beef or chicken bones and aromatic ingredients such as star anise, cinnamon, and ginger. Slices of beef or pieces of chicken are then added, together with fresh herbs and other accompaniments that vary across the country.
