For thus says the LORD: ‘You shall not see wind, nor shall you see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, so that you, your cattle, and your animals may drink.’ - 2 Kings 3:17
I have just read a letter that brought immense sadness to my heart. A priest I deeply revered, whose words, passion for preaching and commitment to ministry I greatly admired, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Anthony Mario Ozele, has died 🥹.
And he died on this special day when the Church celebrates Our Lady of Sorrows.
Fr. Ozele had the eloquence of a great preacher and the charisma of a humble disciple. Aside from Bishop Barron, I listened to him a lot. I remember spending hours listening and taking notes of his preaching.
Two moments particularly remain with me: his preaching at Unusual Praise in 2021 https://t.co/4ZJW2DU74s and his Lenten reflections in 2024 (see them @cweoutreach) . They were truly inspiring.
He was also the founder of Catholic World Evangelical Outreach.
So sad but thank you for the legacy you left through your preaching of the Word and your life of active charity. Thank you for allowing God to use your voice and your life to inspire so many of us.
On this feast of Our Lady of Sorrows, may the Blessed Mother, who stood faithfully beneath the Cross of her Son, accompany you home.
May your soul rest in perfect peace. Amen. 🙏🏽
It has gotten so bad that Nigerians who won fully funded scholarships to universities in the United States this year could not even resume their programmes because of visa wahala placed on Nigeria. People who worked hard, got admitted, secured funding and thought their lives were finally moving forward are now being caught in the consequences of a government they did not elect to fail them.
And perhaps that is the most painful part. For years, many people thought bad governance would not really get to them. You had a good job, so you thought unemployment was somebody else's problem. You could afford private healthcare, so you ignored the collapse of the public system. Your child was studying in a good school, so you thought the education crisis was for other people. You had a passport and an opportunity to travel, so you thought the country's reputation abroad would not affect you.
Until it did.
Now look at the cost of fuel. Look at transportation. Look at food. Look at electricity. Look at the general cost of living. Look at how much harder it has become for ordinary Nigerians to survive. Look at the number of people who are simply trying to leave because they no longer see a future here. Look at how badly Nigeria has been governed.
And please, if your argument is that Peter Obi is bad (which i dont believe), fine. We have heard you. But there is a simple question for you: the person who is currently there, what exactly has he done?
What has President Tinubu done that has fundamentally improved the lives of ordinary Nigerians? How much more suffering are Nigerians expected to endure before we are allowed to ask questions? How much more should people pay for the privilege of simply existing in their own country?
At some point, it cannot always be about defending the person currently in power because the alternative might supposedly be worse. If Tinubu has had his opportunity and this is the best he can offer, let him leave. Let someone else govern. Let another person try. Let Nigerians have the opportunity to demand something better. Nigeria is not the personal property of any politician. No president is entitled to remain in power simply because his supporters can point to someone they consider worse.
Governance is supposed to make people's lives better, not make them constantly devise new ways to survive the consequences of government failure.
Bihari wasted 8 years of your youth. Tinubu has added 4 and wants another 4.
That's 16 years of your prime where your mates in similar economies are outpacing you.
You're not voting Peter Obi to be kind to Peter Obi or to be fair to Igbo people.
You're voting Peter Obi to fight for your life.
I cannot believe after an absolutely terrible first term by BAT, people still need convincing
This has got to be the largest concentration of idiots in the world.
The largest!!
When my Cathedral was bombed by Boko Haram, my family and I narrowly escaped. Rome sent assistance to help rebuild what was damaged.
So when you tell me that the Catholic Church is “taxing us” to send money to Rome, I honestly wonder what Church you think you are talking about.
Peter’s Pence is not a tax. It is a voluntary offering that supports the Pope’s mission and helps the Church respond to people and communities in need around the world.
And Africa is one of its greatest beneficiaries.
In 2025 alone, Peter’s Pence funded €5.2 million worth of 73 direct-assistance projects across Africa, the largest share of any continent. In 2024, Africa received another €5.7 million for 64 projects. These projects include churches, pastoral centres, schools, humanitarian assistance and support for Churches in difficult circumstances.
So who do you think helps the Church in countries ravaged by war, terrorism, famine and poverty?
Who do you think has helped build and rebuild schools, hospitals, churches and other institutions across Africa?
And during the Nigerian Civil War, who do you think provided humanitarian and missionary assistance to suffering Nigerians, including the people of Biafra?
The Catholic Church was there.
Nigeria alone has received enormous support through the universal Catholic Church. And yet you want to pretend that Catholics in Africa are simply sending money to Rome and getting nothing in return?
Please.
The money African Catholics contribute to Peter’s Pence is tiny compared with what major donor countries contribute. In 2024, for example, the United States alone accounted for 25.2% of Peter’s Pence donations.
Meanwhile, the Church continues to send assistance back to communities in Africa and elsewhere.
The Catholic Church is universal. We don't have a “Rome versus Africa” mentality. We are one Church, one family, with the Successor of Peter serving the universal Church.
So before accusing the Church of “taxing” Africans to enrich Rome, perhaps take a moment to actually look at where the money goes.
You might discover that Africa is not merely a contributor to the Catholic Church. Africa is also one of the greatest beneficiaries of the universal Church’s generosity.
You are being profoundly dishonest when you erase all of this.
For Mary’s birthday tomorrow, give her one gift:
Forgive someone.
Pray a Rosary.
Go to Mass.
Offer her flowers.
Help someone in need.
Make a sacrifice.
Return to confession.
Say yes to God in something you have been resisting.
Give the Blessed Virgin Mary a gift she can present to Jesus.
Hi guys,
I’m looking for a full-time Project Manager to join the Harrison Obiefule Foundation.
If you’re in your early-to-mid 20s, a good writer, an early-career professional with experience coordinating projects, programmes or community initiatives, and you’re organised, proactive, dependable and passionate about social impact, I’d love to hear from you.
Please send your CV to [email protected].
Genuinely took a few minutes to make sure the HMO here means a form of Health insurance and not something else. Because as a medical practitioner, this is a severely reckless thing to say.
This likely stemmed from attending to a whole family at once. And so what? Are they there every day? Aren’t we practicing preventive healthcare anymore???
You also don’t know the status of the households and why they chose to utilize their HMO at once. Should they come several times and leave their jobs? Are they not using their money?
I cannot fathom that a Medical Doctor is advocating for the ban of health insurance in a country that has between 3-13% coverage (depending on who you ask).
Not sure why this is boiling my blood so much, but I can nod you for this thing you just said 🤬
I'm a huge fan of rules being applied consistently across a tournament.
How is Enzo supposed to know that a tackle like that is going to get a second yellow card when those calls have not been made against Argentina for the whole tournament?
Completely understand his shock.
Liverpool FC can confirm Arne Slot is to depart his role as head coach with immediate effect and that the process to appoint a successor is under way.
He leaves with a Premier League title to his name and our deepest gratitude and appreciation.
Just praise @PeterObi and all the APC cretins will be in your mentions. The energy they have for him while Nigeria is on fire cannot be explained away by tribalism. This is a mental illness.
5 time Champions League winner, 5 time Ballon d'Or winner, 3 trophies with Portugal, titles in England, Spain, Italy & now Saudi...
Highest goalscorer in Real Madrid history, Portugal history, Champions League history, NT history, uncountable records to his name, 27 goals away from becoming the first to reach 1000.
Normally at this stage, after all these accolades, after winning so much, at the age of 41 someone would get bored and not have the same drive, the same motivation.
But, this is Cristiano Ronaldo in tears after scoring a brace to win Al Nassr the league in Saudi Arabia - after trying so much, after coming close so many times.
When you truly love something, you never get tired of it, not in a million lifetimes, not ever.
A player who lives with football. A motivation for everyone. Once in a lifetime player & person. Football is blessed to have Cristiano Ronaldo. 🐐
Oga, you just proved the post.
You called your cheating “misbehavior” and her response “looseness.” Same act, two different weights.
Your cheating according to you isn’t bad but her reaction is looseness 😂
That alone tells the whole story.
And this “honorable walking away in dignity” you’re prescribing notice how it costs you nothing?
She loses the marriage, the home, the years. You lose a wife you were already cheating on. Then you marry again next year. Very honorable indeed.
A man who isn’t planning to cheat doesn’t sit down to design the “correct” way his wife should respond to his cheating.
The test only exists because you’re keeping the option open.
You’re not measuring her character. You’re measuring your escape route.
