@quartzion55@upzonenj It’s a line that was engineered in the 1850s. The Bellefonte Central Railroad had a plan to connect Huntington and State College but it never came to fruition past Pine Grove Mills on the north side of the ridge
@alanthefisher@JonahA59 The thing abt it I know is that clearance is too short for electrification, but I figure they may be other problems? It’s really old
@Progress4PA@crosstown_line It would still be nice if they got extra equipment bc instead of being extra it’d replace old & unreliable equipment. I take the Keystone daily daily and sometimes it gets delayed bc of mechanical issues, probably at least in part from the cab cars being older than Amtrak itself
@erik_griswold@beyonddc WAS to ALX wouldn’t really make sense, because then instead of doing the electric to/from diesel locomotive swap at WAS where the yard is, you’d have to build a new yard in ALX. It’d make more sense to just electrify all the way to Richmond, which they should do
@uckema@Awildschild I assume by slot limited you mean NYP tunnel capacity? If so this doesn’t propose adding more trains, just altering the PennDOT subsidy to cover PHL to NYP trips for PA residents. And passenger limitations can be remedied by adding more coaches; they can be longer than 5 cars
@abhishekarghya@Awildschild 1) well of course not lol and 2) right and I’m suggesting amending it so that there is more affordable travel between Philadelphia and NYC. You can’t add more trains going into Penn bc of tunnel capacity, so why not make the PennDOT Keystone subsidy cover PHL-NYP trips too?
@Aden_Yacobi@RAILMag This would be tricky because of Black Rock Tunnel bear Phoenixville, as it’s overheard clearance (17’) is too low for electrification
@ralphDrussoATH Hey @TheAthletic Might wanna add an attribution here for the 10 local reporters who were in the room away from cameras where this was said. We've been here the whole way and will continue to be.
