This "people in power get to abuse their power a little, as a treat" attitude is extremely common in the US and boy is it not ok. It's corruption, and it should be treated as such.
Goodness this is a bad take. The implicit threat of using political power as a cudgel against enemies is gross. You should be free to antagonize ANY politician without fear they'll use their power to retaliate against you
