@DanaSchwartzzz This is totally subjective because you never know what will respark it (as all the great answers show!) For me, it’s been Laurie Colwin, MFK Fisher, Hilary Mantel, and Nancy Mitford (The Pursuit of Love or Love in a Cold Climate.)
@LauraMLippman Stay at the poshest hotel possible and do exactly as you like. Wander, shop, eat, read. I did this in London last year and it was heaven.
@espiers We ran into our 4 year old in front of his school last week (on our way to a teacher conference). He doubled over with laughter, looked at us with disbelief, and said “what the HELL are YOU doing here?!”
@katiemcvay Opposite story! I badly wanted “Sweet Valley High” books for my eleventh birthday. My mother, a librarian, bought me the Complete Works of Jane Austen instead. (I was not happy and did not appreciate this until at least at least ten years later.)
@bjohnsonauthor I love reading favorite book threads, and I can’t resist adding mine: Middlemarch, The Pursuit of Love, Love in a Cold Climate (both Nancy Mitford), and Wolf Hall.
@HopeWhitmore It’s totally ok! My son was too. He’s 7 and now I only feel bad that I felt bad at the time. The energy isn’t worth it. Fed is best! You’re great!
