@davidfowl aspnet core's data protection mechanism is a great use case for so-called "aad gateway proxies" -- where you store enough info in the encrypted cookie that you can say is the person authorized to user stuff behind this proxy without having to do server side checks, etc.

@danluu On the topic of understanding things. I had similar kinds of questions in high school. Why does the bird sitting on the wire not get electrocuted? And I would paraphrase it as, "can the electrons 'see' that there is no potential diff and stop? How do they know if they don't move?

@terrajobst @jaredpar As long as the compiler can do this automatically do analysis & bar only when you can’t reasonably detect all exceptions. Then you can use mod opt etc to expose it.

Probably the only (personal) silver lining of COVID19 is that it may make it possible for me to finish my degree program since the classes that I needed to finish are now offered online (for a limited pandemic time!)
