☪️ Serving Islam with pure intentions: Understanding the words of Hazrat Musleh-e-Maud ✨️

Hazrat Mirza Bashir-ud-Din Mahmud Ahmad, Khalifatul Masih II (ra) stated:

خدمتِ دین کو اک فَضلِ الٰہى جانو

اس کے بدلے میں کبھى طالِبِ اِنْعَام نہ ہو

“Consider service to the Faith a grace from God; never expect any reward in return for it.”

“Thus, the thought of making sacrifices for the sake of faith must always be remembered. However, it should also be remembered alongside this that any sacrifice made for the faith brings its reward from Allah the Almighty. Therefore, you should cultivate spirituality within yourselves; thereafter, you will witness its results on your own.

“Spiritual stages are of two kinds. There are some whom Allah the Almighty deems worthy of acceptance in this world – He grants them acceptance.”

“The second rank is that Allah the Almighty does not spread a person’s acceptance among the believers, but He opens for him the doors of His mercy. Such a person begins to experience the effects of divine friendship (wilayat-e-ilahi). In this way too, he realises that he has not remained unsuccessful, for he witnesses the grace and favour of Allah descending upon him.”

“Whoever sets out to serve for the sake of God Almighty should seek acknowledgement of his service from Allah alone. It is not necessary that Allah manifest this acknowledgement through the tongues of people; rather, He makes it evident through His revelation, His help, and His support.

“A person ought to reflect upon himself and consider how Allah the Almighty is dealing with him. If Allah honours him with His love, His word and His support, then what greater shame could there be than for him to think: ‘All of this is insignificant – I still desire praise from people?’

“If a person is not praised in the sight of Allah the Almighty, what benefit can the praise of people possibly bring him?”

“Seeking recognition for your services to the faith is a form of ill-thinking – first of all, ill-thinking of Allah the Almighty, and secondly, ill-thinking of your own self.”

“People may try to push him behind their backs, yet Allah the Almighty elevates him to the forefront.”

“Therefore, when one serves Allah, the foundation of that service must be rooted in spirituality.”

“Man is, indeed, like a flute in the hands of Allah the Almighty. Allah blows into the flute of whomever He wills; yet, whoever lacks spirituality is like a broken flute, incapable of producing any melody.

“Hence, the desire to serve the faith, and the foundation of that service, must rest upon spirituality. In such a case, a person will never be disappointed.”

On 18 April 1906, at 5:12 am, a violent 7.9-magnitude earthquake struck San Francisco without warning. Streets were ripped apart, thousands of buildings collapsed, and ruptured gas lines ignited catastrophic fires that raged for three days. More than 3,000 lives were lost, and over 80% of the city was destroyed.

The Promised Messiah (as) explicitly mentioned the catastrophic earthquakes in San Francisco, Formosa and Chile, alongside the disaster in Kangra, as the fulfilment of his prophecies concerning global calamities.

The Holy Quran states:

“When the earth is shaken with her [violent] shaking, And the earth brings forth her burdens.” (Surah az-Zilzal, Ch.99 : V.2-3)

When asked about his claims concerning earthquakes, the Promised Messiah (as) explained in Haqiqatul Wahi:

“Not only the earthquakes, but other terrible calamities will also appear, some from heaven and some from earth. This will occur because mankind has abandoned the worship of their God, and have fallen upon materialism with all their heart, all their resolve, and all their thoughts.”

He further stated that those who repent would find security and those who fear before calamity overtakes them would be shown mercy.

The Great Kagi Earthquake struck Formosa on 17 March 1906, causing massive destruction and 1,258 deaths. A year earlier, the Kangra earthquake of 4 April 1905 claimed more than 20,000 lives and caused approximately 100,000 buildings to collapse.

These disasters exposed a universal truth: when confronted with calamities of immense magnitude, human institutions can become powerless, and the scale of suffering can vastly exceed humanity’s ability to respond.

The significance of San Francisco’s mention retains relevance today. The city remains a symbol of wealth, technology, venture capital and hyper-capitalism.

The Promised Messiah (as) warned:

“O Europe! You are not safe! And O Asia! Neither are you secure! And O the dwellers of Islands! No artificial ‘God’ will come to your aid.”

He urged mankind to repent and seek the mercy of God.

“O ye who slumber! Awake at once — it is no time to dream…”

The Unparalleled Generosity of the Promised Messiah (as)

Hazrat Mirza Bashir Ahmad (ra) writes in Sirat-ul-Mahdi that Dr Mir Muhammad Ismail (ra) narrated a statement of Abdul Muhyi Sahib Arab, who said during the time of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih I (ra) that the generosity of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as), the Promised Messiah, was beyond words. He said that during the lifetime of the Promised Messiah (as), he never faced difficulty, because whatever he needed, he would ask without hesitation, and the Promised Messiah (as) would give him more than his need and would also give to him on his own initiative. After the Promised Messiah (as) passed away, Abdul Muhyi Sahib felt that even Hazrat Khalifatul Masih I (ra), despite being known for generosity, could not fulfil his needs in the same way. He then wrote to him that although he had become the Khalifa of the Promised Messiah (as), he had not shown the same khilafat in meeting his needs. Upon this, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih I (ra) helped him.

In March 1897, a group of educated youngsters from Lahore, including Maulvi Muhammad Ali Sahib, Khawaja Kamaluddin Sahib, Dr Sir Muhammad Iqbal Sahib, Maulvi Ghulam Mohyuddin Sahib of Kasur, Chaudhry Shahabuddin Sahib and others, travelled to Qadian to investigate the claim of the Promised Messiah (as).

Each had prepared objections and allegations they wished to raise.

Upon their arrival, a meeting was arranged in the Gol Kamra. When the Promised Messiah (as) entered, he immediately began addressing their objections in a speech and continued until every concern had been answered.

The visitors looked at one another in astonishment, wondering how he knew the questions they had come to ask. Some declared that he was truly sent by Allah, while others considered it magic.

Ultimately, around twelve or thirteen men, including Maulvi Muhammad Ali Sahib, Chaudhry Shahabuddin Sahib, Dr Sir Muhammad Iqbal Sahib, Maulvi Ghulam Mohiyuddin Sahib and Hazrat Babu Ghulam Muhammad (ra), performed bai‘at.

That night, after the evening meal, Hazrat Babu Ghulam Muhammad (ra) selected a large charpoy, but Chaudhry Shahabuddin Sahib took it for himself. When the Promised Messiah (as) came to enquire whether the guests were comfortable, Hazrat Babu Ghulam Muhammad (ra) mentioned his predicament. The Promised Messiah (as) assured him that another charpoy would be arranged.

Later, he looked towards the house of the Promised Messiah (as) and witnessed a remarkable scene: a man was hurriedly weaving a charpoy while the Promised Messiah (as) stood beside him holding a diya to provide light.

Deeply moved and overcome with shame, he offered to take the lamp, but the Promised Messiah (as) replied, “There is only a little bit left.” Seeing this humility and service, tears filled his eyes and he became convinced that such a face could never be that of a liar.

Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V (aa) stated:

“You asked which letters I give preference to. The answer is that I give preference to every letter that is written to me, whatever language it may be in.

“It is not a matter of English or Urdu alone. People write to me in many languages from around the world and I give attention to all these letters and also reply to them.”
