@JenniferNorris2 So true. Many of the new folks who have been engaging with Sharp & Fine are coming to us through Instagram first and direct experience second.
@benloory Seriously! It was slightly embarrassing because it was a press event (I’m not sure why we got those tickets). So it was a bunch of cultural commentators being very serious and engaged and then the two of us doing the sleepy bob and weave.
@benloory My favorite terrible movies are the ones about which I can’t articulate anything specifically positive and yet are somehow endearing/fascinating.
@benloory Also, this reminds me of this one time when my friend and I went to see a new piece by a rather famous contemporary choreographer in Berlin. It was in a sort of installation space and they literally LOCKED US IN. So instead of leaving when I was frustrated, I fell asleep 😆
@JenniferNorris2 @BayBookFest I used to work at @Booksmith and have fond memories of working/hanging out at a Bay Area Book Festival booth on a sunny weekend. I think I was reading All the Birds in the Sky by @charliejane at the time and she was doing an event. It was all just a day of extravagant book joy.
This thread articulates so many of my feelings about making art in difficult times and making art in general. Trust, connection, joy, beauty, dedication to one another, and love.
A short thread on why Dear San Francisco, in the face of all the harshness and tragedy in the world today. I don’t want to offer a banal “art matters” rationale, but I want to unpack what feels authentically important about the show, the form, art, et al, right now. 1/?
@clubfugazisf I’m also in SF and had been planning to see Dear San Francisco in April with some friends/collaborators. Will now look forward to it even more. Thank you!
@clubfugazisf This whole thread struck me so hard. I’m a choreographer and this articulates the thoughts that my sister (my co-choreographer) and I have been having lately. Making art matters if it asks you to remember why and how you want to live. ❤️
@KatWithSword Thank you! It’s kind of a challenge… super short creation time (we only have 9 rehearsals to make a 15-min piece)… but definitely interesting. Maybe we can have a catch-up chat and we can gossip about making dance and making stories?
My sister and I are working on a new piece for Oakland Ballet to premiere later this month. Here, looking for all the feelings with Aidan’s long limbs. 🖤
As an ethicist who teaches #medstudents about the ethics of organ allocation I'm thrilled that organ transplantation is in the news. But many are troubled by the latest case. Is it right to refuse a heart to the unvaxxed? Who decides? Read on for, I hope, some clarity... A🧵...
@KatWithSword @SharpandFine So happy that you were able to join! One day we will get to have you at a show in person, but it was so special to share a show with you at last, even on a screen. ❤️
@gillyarcht 🙋🏻♀️ Recently moved to an apartment in the Richmond with many old windows... there’s so much creaking going on that I feel like I’m in a beleaguered ship! Also a high pitched whistling tone... wondering if this is the GG bridge noise I’ve heard about.
