Loved this collection of poems. Great way to draw sport fanatic students into poetry. The illustrations added life to each poem! #SLISJ756@librarygoddess
Absolutely phenomenal audiobook! The cast did amazing reading the book and the music and sound effects really enhanced the mood of the story! #SLISJ756@librarygoddess
Such simple illustrations but they speak so loudly. Madeline is my favorite series of books. I love the rhyming throughout the books. #SLISJ756@librarygoddess
@ArdStacy@nicholejmack@georgejroy Wow! That is awesome. I knew way too many people at my high school who had never been told what was appropriate on the internet and even just to text people and got into big trouble for those things you incorporated into your health/sex ed program.
@MichaleneLangf1@georgejroy I am wondering if there is an education version of Twitter, like there is for Facebook (Edmodo) and Instagram (SeeSaw). That way social media could still be used but there would be more boundaries and more safety measures, especially for elementary use.
@MichaleneLangf1@georgejroy This is an excellent challenge that comes with social media!! It would require many intentional conversations lead by teachers to help students sort through the real and fake information.
@msheather424@georgejroy I'm wondering, however, if blogs may be an acceptable source. There are tons of blogs out there that contain good information. I think with blogs, the teacher would have to review the blog with the student and together they can determine if it is a credible source.
@Lizzy7391@georgejroy I think you have a great point on school policies. I know most school districts block social media websites. It may require permission from school boards and district administrators to approve the use of social media.
@ArdStacy@georgejroy I like how you mentioned it would help students connect to family and friends. Think of how easily parents, out of town family, friends at other schools could see what their students/ friends were learning/doing in school. Social media definitely serves as a great connector.
@meganjo66302717@georgejroy I had not thought of the lack of in-person discussion. I wonder if we could combat that by pulling a few students' tweets for a whole class discussion a few times a week.
@georgejroy#edte731fall2018chat The challenges of social media would be monitoring student use and gaining parent permission. Teachers would have to make expectations very clear and watch for misuse by students. Getting elementary parents to allow social media may be tough.
@georgejroy#edte731fall2018chat The biggest benefit is the connection of the outside world to school. Students could follow authors, researchers, reporters, etc and find out information in a unique way. It would allow for research techniques to change.
