@jessesingal It's evidence of moral and intellectual rot. Someone lazily assumes/says something, and then others repeat it uncritically, and no amount of evidence can dissuade (some of) them from their crusade.
@jessesingal I don't think you're being uncharitable. I'm just pointing out that laziness and incompetence are as often at fault as actual prevarication. Related to Hanlon's Razor. In this case, they're equally awful. (I know it's the same thing some have done to you.)
The Mamdani grocery store was a silly idea that sounded good on the campaign trail to low-information voters, and now they are doing it because they said they would, even though they clearly understand it's silly. The Trump administration has this problem.
@abesilbe Well, as I said, past the age of 18, 'I hate nation-states' is like 'I hate money'. Just a deeply unserious thing to say that doesn't actually do any serious critique of the world. But let's leave the rest for in person :))
Anti-Israel folks are really cute sometimes. You can clearly see Jewish Currents was just so bothered that Klee's famous painting happens to be based in Jerusalem (because Adorno passed it to the Israeli thinker Gershom Scholem) so they did this tortured song and dance about its "appropriation as a nationalist trophy", linking it to the war with Iran, etc.; saying a lot of things to say nothing.
Whereas the painting being in Israel signals a stubborn fact: Israel and its history obviously have very firms to the Jewish diaspora and its history; which renders the anti-Zionist project of 'they are not us' untenable. But to 'reflect' on that is harder so you have whatever this is
@dilanesper Maybe the issue is overweighting speed (or which portions of our assessments function as gatekeeping to the profession, rather than credentials for certain roles within it). Assessments for speed and for depth over time are both helpful. But it's hard to legislate.
@NateSilver538 Maybe he can work on kicking out the communists and not worrying about his job. Either he will succeed, and the job will be worth having. Or he will fail, and it won't.
I am absolutely thrilled to have Gov @GretchenWhitmer’s endorsement for U.S. Senate. She is a champion for our state, she understands the stakes of this race and why it’s so important we elect the strongest Dem in this primary, and she gets stuff done for Michigan. Let’s go win!
