I really do hope this tech gets revived in the future. I imagine Google, with their wealth of user-submitted contributions to places on Maps and across the internet, could create some amazingly immersive experiences for browsers or even VR.

Who remembers Microsoft's Photosynth? It's a shame this technology was retired, because the potential it held was incredible. Imagine navigating through a 3D space built from tens of thousands of similarly tagged images across the internet.
