@cmclymer I remember, in the old days, we were taught shame as early as grammar school. I can still feel shame with even the slightest prompt. It's a shame the essentials are no longer taught. So here we are.
@mary_pezzulo I am so proud of Rep Kimble. He is not ashamed of what he doesn't know, he humbly asks questions, and he continues to learn on the job. I wish they were all like that
@JoshuaLWatson only philosophers are able to grasp the eternal and unchangeable. How does Plato show us, in this universe, anything eternal or unchangeable? His philosophy requires the invention of some other dimension that houses the eternal and unchangeable. It's a stretch
@JoshuaLWatson I think we must both admit that, according to Plato, we are not qualified to be philosophers. Amateur musicians are explicitly excluded as "professors of the minor arts". So let's not kid ourselves.
@JoshuaLWatson I'm saying that Euclid stick a pin in a board, tied a string to it and traced a circle. Now he can think a thought about the circle. The circle is an invention and is perceived by the senses and can be thought about. So the circle that is in Euclid's mind is now a "form"?
@JoshuaLWatson Isn't this similar to people talking about "the laws of nature" as if the laws existed first? The laws of nature are things we have noticed about the world around us
@JoshuaLWatson Things have properties because we look at them and say that they have properties. If not for thinking, things would be just fine without properties.
