@FreddyLA7 Recently I’ve discovered the German language which is TERRIFIC & I love it a lot. Had had NO IDEA how much German is w/in English.
Now if I could ONLY get declensions sorted out…!!!
(A massive “if”.)
Btw, in 1982 bunch of us school kids went to Germany: the nicest folks!❤️
I’m no expert by ANY means, but even I noticed the complete lack of fire and nerve after Arg’s first goal.
E. did NOT attempt to redouble resolve or get winning attitude. Eng seemed deflated & defeated *immediately* which is completely unacceptable & inevitably leads to defeat.
Watch Spain at 1-0 last night. That’s courage. That’s bravery. And then watch England at 1-0. What’s the difference?
We are a better team than Argentina, I’ve no doubt in my mind. But we deserved to get beat in the end. In fact, it could have been 4-1.
Bringing on 3 defenders at 1-0 up. What message does that send? I wrote it in my Daily Mail column after the Mexico game. Until we understand that courage and bravery is controlling possession under pressure and not booting / heading it up the field 40 yards then this will always be the end result.
@jpodhoretz@micsolana I’m sorry if it upsets “people” but *this* is basically exactly what “people” mocked Ayn Rand for for YEARS now.
I hate that she saw this coming eons ago. I’vefeared it as I never disavowed what she preached.
In any case, maybe “people” will wake up. Thanks for the post, John.
A stranger at an American grocery store said, "I love your jacket, man."
I froze.
In Japan, when a stranger speaks to you, something is wrong. You dropped your wallet. Your bag is open. There is a spider on you.
So I checked my jacket for stains.
I checked my zipper.
I turned around — maybe he meant someone behind me.
He was already gone.
He didn't want anything.
The compliment was the whole event.
It took me three weeks to try it myself. I practiced in my car. "Nice hat." "Nice hat." "Nice hat." Twenty minutes.
At Home Depot, I finally said it to an old man. My voice cracked like I was confessing love.
He said "Thanks, brother!" and kept walking.
Like it was nothing.
Like kindness is free here.
Since that day, I have complimented 14 strangers.
In 40 years in Japan, I never once told my father I liked his car.
Tomorrow I'm calling him.
Nice hat, America.
Read this. Understand who you’re harming by propping up this pernicious ideology. Young gay people are undergoing modern-day conversion therapy. You’re cheering on irreversible body alterations for vulnerable people who were perfect as they were.
Here is a picture of @RoKhanna in Hebron.
The mayor of Hebron is a Palestinian named Tayseer Abu Sneineh. In 1980, he murdered 6 people, including 2 Americans.
I wonder if Ro ever brought that up.
@twmurph1958@JonahDispatch@EsotericCD Came here to shout about Riley!! Soo good. Sam did so much. (Great wine, too.) As a quasi-kiwi myself, this hits especially hard.
I’m very sad Sam is gone.
One can go too far with guilt-by-association arguments, but the simple fact is that they are literally associated with these groups. They may not be members of these groups, they may even privately oppose them or work to minimize their influence within the party. But they are still part of an organization that does not reject them. Maoists and Communists are in their tent.
If a Republican candidate was a member of some broad front that had openly Nazi and Fascist organizations committed to overthrowing the Constitution within it, I don't think we would hear a lot of "well, ackshully conservatism and fascism are very different things" the way we hear "well, ackshully, democratic socialism and communism have nothing to do with each other."
And, for the record, I am appalled by Republicans -- led by Trump and Vance-- who want racists and Nazi simps to have a place inside their "big tent." But I see no reason why liberals shouldn't be appalled by the DSA's similar attitude toward Stalinists, Maoists, and supporters of terrorism.
Okay I'm done.

@EsotericCD I feel this Deeek post with my children (ages 18-32). One child for sure enjoys reading books a lot, but the other 4…I fear one or two especially just do not recognise the joys of book reading and it saddens me in a profound way.
