In 2025, Coach Allen Cornwall said an entire team of 50 girls lost the state championship because a male athlete won the girls’ pole vault event, giving his team 10 points. The girls’ team lost by 1 point.

One boy did not just impact one event…He changed the outcome for an entire team.

This is not an isolated incident. Parents and students made clear that males are in female bathrooms and locker rooms, males are competing in female sports, and girls are staying quiet because they have been shamed into silence.

Enough.

Female students are not asking for anything radical. They are asking for the same sex-based civil rights Title IX has protected for 54 years.

The Maine ballot referendum to “Designate School Sports Participation & Facilities by Sex” is simple: sports and private spaces in public schools should be designated by sex, not feelings. This is not complicated.

Girls do not have to lose their dignity, privacy, and opportunities just so adults can pretend biology does not matter.

Memorial Day isn’t about barbecues, lake trips, or a long weekend. It’s about the price that was paid so the rest of us could wake up free every single day.

Today we honor the sons, daughters, husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, and friends who never made it home. Americans who wore the uniform, carried the weight of this nation on their shoulders, and gave everything they had for people they’d never even meet.

Freedom has never been free. It was bought with sacrifice, courage, and the blood of heroes.

So before we celebrate, take a moment to remember the empty seats at family tables across this country. Say a prayer for the Gold Star families carrying a pain most of us will never fully understand. And thank God for the men and women who answered the call when America needed them most.

May we live worthy of their sacrifice.

5. No one is being cut off from team sport. They are simply required to compete with and against their same-sex peers, the same as all students. This is not a "punishment"

6. Girls are human beings who also have feelings and deserve as much consideration as you are giving boys who pretend to be them.
