Second Olive Ridley turtle trying to nest at Juhu beach chased away by people this month. We know of at least 3 such cases from just this month.
It's time to stop treating these as freak instances and maybe think of our beaches as turtle nesting sites!

A lesser known aspect of our work at @CCFIndia_. Since 2016, as the monsoon sets in, we work with @MahaForest and @MangroveForest to manage, rescue and release sea turtles and cetaceans that wash ashore in Mumbai.
Thank you, @sabahvir for covering it.

This #WorldEnvironmentDay I'd like to share two very big milestones @MLOMumbai crossed a few days ago.
Our marine biodiversity database has 10,886 observations of 602 species from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
A 🧵 on what this means and why it's important.

When the tide recedes on Mumbai’s beaches, a parallel universe emerges. Watch to learn about the #marine marvels of #Mumbai, why they are threatened and the citizens who protect them.

#FromTheArchives: Zoanthids are a subgroup of #corals, and they get their green colour from algae living in association with them. These are found on the distant margins of the rock patches off Marine Drive.

Mumbai's busy, busy seashores right now are home to squid egg masses. Look closely at the translucent balloon like bunches in the first photo, and you'll see the tiny individual eggs in them, each the size of a sabudana. 1/3

Inside each of these, a tiny squid embryo develops in a series of stages. This photo shows mid-stage embryos. The paddle-like thing on each miniature squid is a sac of yolk, which slowly transfers its contents into the embryo as it grows up. 2/3
