@TheDonStein They tried about 20 years ago. Didn’t really stop anything. It only made it so it was unregulated and off shore. Also states wanted their cut of the pie. Don’t get me wrong, gambling is exploiting the weak and the dumb. It is wrong. But impossible to stop online.
Every “creative” liturgy I’ve ever encountered is textually and musically worse than what we have in our hymnals.
Every “creative” confession and absolution I’ve heard is weaker in both law sternness and gospel sweetness than what is in our hymnals. Some have been so weak that we could fairly charge those who wrote them with false doctrine.
And in my 18 years as a pastor, unless they are appealing to “ceremonies need not be the same everywhere” I have never heard a strongly pro-contemporary worship pastor quote the Lutheran Confessions.
Never. Not once. Not a single time.
@lymanstoneky I don’t think this was strictly a conservative - liberal thing. Dr. Biermann is a fairly traditional guy - see his essay condemning functionally open communion or his classes on man and women in Christ. He was actually the most conservative 2nd place alternative in 16 years.
@TheDonStein But the context of the interview really was ignoring the theological divisions we have and that video highlighted some of the more extreme ones. Agree framing it in “PAC” language is not good, and the approach was less than helpful, but the issues presented are real.
@paul_a_tennant@HansFiene You can partner with another congregation and form a dual parish. It sounds as if finances are the major barrier to calling a full time pastor, this is where congregations must work together.
