@Suresh It was *SUCH* a pleasant surprise to hear the deserving #IndonesianFlavour featured today! We got Xmas dinner from them and it made our day. I've been saying for years how hard it is to find Indo food here! Thx to u + @CBCIsmaila for the thoughtful conversation!
@spaikin@Laurier@kgalmac@queensu@karenosstf @PeopleforEd @Anniekidder @TheAgenda @ONeducation@ETFOeducators@OECTAProv@osstf@Sflecce What about funding more immediate (+ .: arguably more effective) interventions? For ex, literacy and reading intervention beyond primary gr., lower teacher to student ratio, etc. Won't make it to gr 13 if we can't read and write first. Some kids are ready after gr. 12!
Each ribbon has a message of solidarity, love, and support from @DesmondHDSB students & staff for our Muslim community after the tragic events this week. We see you and we stand with you 💚 Come by and hold space with us, act on your support, and attach a message. Pls RT
Often when I facilitate equity learning Ts ask about how to have convos w/ K + Pri students. Today I remind myself: share fulsome facts, speak truths. Support with coping strategies and safe space. The kids take it from there.
So moved today by the families in my class. Told my gr 2s of the 215 found @ Kamloops w/ caution b/c of their age. Hand buttons lit up. S' parents had already told them about the news b/c they said they knew our class had learned about R schools b4 so would learn more this week.
Why had I even felt the need to be so cautious? (white supremacy). These young souls are justice-oriented + brave. I feel accountable to the fams and it pushes me to be braver + speak truth. TY families. I am inspired by the role fams can play in our spaces.
Tomorrow marks the start of Black History Month. We are so grateful to three educators (two @VEN_HDSB educators, Tanesha Forbes Bunsie and @mmetedja) and @vanderwalc of @DesmondHDSB for their work curating resources for staff, focusing on a CRRP approach

Chi miigwetch @MoccasinIdenti1 for your inquiry-based resources 🙏 POWERFUL justice-oriented and antiracist learning thanks to you! Honest insights, q's and misconceptions from the mouths of babes... so much to dismantle but we are so excited to learn!
@MoccasinIdenti1 Chii miigwetch for your inquiry-based resources. Your gr 2 arc on celebrations + traditions is leading to anti-racist and inclusive learning. It was so teacher friendly to use. Powerful truths, q's + misconceptions to address from the honest mouths of kids...
Try this if you wanna put Canadian Residential Schools in context for young minds: Find a movie or show they love from 1996 and tell them THAT'S when the last one closed. Lots of my kiddos love Home Alone right now. Home Alone is older than the closure of RS. My class was like 🤯
@vanderwalc@DesmondHDSB @DesmondMusicDpt Thank YOU for your accomplicing with me! I heard so much connection-making from our students. The best part of all. 🙏🏼
Racism and anti-Semitism on the rise (look it up). Did you know around 80 million people died in WWII alone? Do we teach in a way that confronts these hard truths and actually abolishes fear/hate/selfishness so that such a large loss of life actually never happens again?
It's Remembrance Day. A big day around elementary schools.
“True peace is not merely the absence of war, it is the presence of justice.” -Dr Martin Luther King Jr.
Remembering this.
Mom Shyamala Gopalan Harris this one is for you. Your grit, your grace, your bravery, your cross racial solidarity at a time when it was not ‘woke’. Because of you and the work you did your daughter is being celebrated by all 🙏🏾🙏🏾
“Imagine what that must have been like…to have fought so hard… To see your rights enshrined & protected in the foundational document on which Canada’s democracy rests…
Now imagine the…disappointment…when govts that had promised so much did so little to keep their word.” 1/2
guess I should be thanking @VichyCanada because I switched to its regimen recently and today a gr 3 came up to me like I had no business being where I was and said "hey! yo, whose class are you in? like, who was your teacher last year?!" (I'm a teacher)
