Epic Games paid $900,000,000 to Fortnite map creators, but no one is talking about it

The last time Epic disclosed payout data was in 2024. Back then, builders received $352,000,000:

> 30,000 creators received $100-$1,000

> 5,400 creators received $1,000-$10,000

> 1,718 creators received $10,000-$100,000

> 572 creators received $100,000-$1,000,000

> 58 creators received $1,000,000-$10,000,000

By 2026, total payouts to builders have exceeded $900M, and this number continues to grow

Right now, there are two main ways to earn rewards:

1. Engagement Payouts

Epic takes 40% of Fortnite’s eligible net revenue from the Item Shop and puts that money into the Engagement Pool. Then this pool is distributed among eligible island publishers based on the engagement their content generates

2. In-Island Transactions / Direct Economy Payouts

Fortnite map developers can now sell items inside their islands. From January 9, 2026 to January 31, 2027, builders will receive 100% of the V-Bucks value from every sale
