This week, we proudly feature Thapelo Mmusinyane, a leader who is using public land and property to create real development and opportunities for communities.

Thapelo is a senior real-estate and asset-management executive at eThekwini Municipality, where he works as Director: Property Valuation & Management.
He has strong experience in property valuation, land release, and large development projects.

He oversees more than 53,000 municipal properties valued at about R20 billion. He also manages a valuation roll of over 569,000 properties worth R716 billion, which helps generate R12 billion a year in rates revenue and around R680 million in lease income for the city.

Thapelo is leading major redevelopment projects that are changing Durban’s skyline. These include the Durban Beachfront and Golden Mile, the Elangeni & Maharani Towers hotels, Joe Kools on Marine Parade, and the Durban Amusement Park (former Funworld site).
These projects are attracting billions of rands in private investment, supporting transformation, and creating inclusive economic growth.

Originally from Mase in Taung, Thapelo remains committed to using public assets to open doors, grow the economy, and improve lives.
