The minimal snow fall this winter throughout our area is concerning for firefighters as spring approaches. This suggests decreased moisture levels in “wildland” areas and suggests an increased risk of wildfires.
In Southern Ontario, these fires seem innocuous, but they CAN be very dangerous and destructive especially if cross-over conditions exist and are wind driven. And they can be resource intensive, stripping a community of limited resources quickly.
As you begin to plan your spring cleanup activities, please bear this in mind and refer to the @FireSmartCanada program and @ONforestfires materials for information about protecting your property from the risk of fires related to wooded and forested areas.
