This is also turning things inward in precisely the ways that capitalism loves. Instead of asking "What changes the distribution of power?", people start asking "What does my choice say about me?". So the logic of consumption just enters through the back door. And then politics becomes an exercise in self-expression and demonstrating that one's identity and associations are uncontaminated

Politics cannot be focused around neurotically arranging your personal life so that you never ever touch anything produced by compromised people or institutions. That's borderline childish. And capitalism gives you pretty much no chance of doing that consistently anyway

What I mean is there has to be a distinction between political judgment and politicizing every judgment. You can think DHH's politics should not be ignored. You can criticize them publicly. You can also decide that some threshold would make you stop supporting his work. But it doesn't follow that your arch rice has to become an expression of your theory of the good society.

Omarchy is a net positive for the Linux community. That doesn't mean I'm not repulsed by some of the essays in DHH's blog (you know which ones). That also doesn't mean I like how it's built. I'm still keeping my own NixOS setup. And yet. Individual purity is escape, not politics, and running every single thing through a political theory is one thought too many.

was in the middle of delivering a pretty important presentation internally to our team, and all of the sudden my camera starts flickering like crazy. Little horizontal black bars like an old TV.

This is a Sony A6400 + an elgato camlink. Turns out Elgato Camera Hub was causing this. Not exactly Apple's fault here AFAIK but still, the software ecosystem being as reliable and battle tested as the operating system was always part of the edge macOS had over Linux.

Not only is macOS getting shittier and more unreliable, but also its software ecosystem. I guess hardware and phone integration is pretty much their only edge now, and even that is changing now that we have Framework laptops, XPSs and ThinkPads with OLED touch screens, haptic trackpads, and crazy battery life
