I am grateful to Canada and Prime Minister @MarkJCarney for talks that are always substantive and focused on what can help protect lives right now.

We discussed in detail the options for ensuring Ukraine’s financial resilience this year and next. Thank you for your readiness to help secure the necessary financing for our budget needs and for our warriors. I also spoke about the virtually constant Russian ballistic missile and drone strikes. Mark assured me that Canada is ready to join our European anti-ballistic missile program FREYJA with its technologies. This is a necessary and timely step. There will also be additional defense deliveries.

Of course, we also had a meaty discussion about promising bilateral projects in defense and the economy. In particular, our teams are currently working on the Drone Deal. We expect to reach a full-fledged agreement in the near future. Thank you, Mark! Thank you to the Canadian people and all of Canada for your significant support.

LAKE ONTARIO :The Sharpie was the spectacle. Section 2(a) of the executive order is the territorial claim.

While most people stared at Donald Trump’s big, fat signature — scribbled with his favourite instrument of international policy, the Sharpie — the fine print of the executive order went unnoticed.
As always, the devil is in the details.
The name change was the tip of the iceberg.
And maps are more than names.
Read the executive order.
“With the deepest parts of the Lake’s waters lying within United States territory, the United States claims most of the Lake’s volume.” section 2 (a)

The verb is the weapon. Claims.

This is not a caption on a souvenir. It is an assertion of right.

Then , further reading of the order describes the machinery.

Within 30 days, the Secretary of the Interior is to rename the lake “Lake America,” update the Geographic Names Information System, and “remove all references to Lake Ontario from the GNIS.”
Not add a name. Erase all mention of the old name from the official American geographic record.
After that, every federal map, contract, and government communication must repeat the new one.

Watch the sequence, one that China has been executing for decades in the South China Sea.

First, isolate a physical fact: the deepest point, the Rochester Basin, sits off the New York shore.
-Convert that fact into a title: the United States “claims most of the Lake’s volume.”
- Write the new name into the database.
-Delete the former name.
- Order the entire federal apparatus to speak as if the deletion had always been true.

Once that paper trail exists, it can be cited in legal arguments to claim sovereignty.

The second half is already foreseeable.
When Coast Guard charts, Army Corps filings, and American navigation systems all say “Lake America,” patrols, icebreakers, and inspections acquire a new language.
They are no longer on a binational lake.
They are on a body of water the United States has already renamed and claimed by volume.

On September 12, 2001, NATO invoked Article 5—its collective defence clause—for the first and only time, rallying all member nations to support the United States after the 9/11 attacks.

Canada contributed significantly to the subsequent NATO-led mission in Afghanistan (2001–2014). The "Highway of Heroes" is a stretch of Highway 401 in eastern Ontario, where fallen Canadian soldiers' remains are solemnly transported by convoy from CFB Trenton to Toronto (and onward to burial), with crowds often lining bridges to pay tribute.

During the mission, 158 Canadian Armed Forces members died in service, with thousands more injured—all in solidarity with the U.S. and NATO allies following 9/11.
Other NATO allies suffered significant casualties as well: the United Kingdom lost around 457 personnel, France 90, Germany 62, Italy 53, Denmark 43, and many others (total coalition deaths, including non-NATO partners, exceeded 3,500, with non-U.S. NATO members accounting for roughly 1,100–1,200 fatalities).

Albertans and Canadians alike should be deeply concerned by Premier Smith’s urgent demand for Ottawa to run back to the negotiating table before U.S. tariffs hit in two weeks.

The federal government has already drawn a clear line: the Americans need to back down.

So why is Smith breaking rank and putting pressure on our own country instead of standing unified?

It smells like political sabotage of a "Canada Strong" ideal.

It makes NO sense to weaken Canada's bargaining chip unless there is backchannel communication happening. ...it feels highly likely that someone from the Trump administration has reached out to Smith, using her to fracture Canada's resolve from within.

By echoing Washington's pressure tactics, the Alberta government is compromising our national leverage.

This isn't helpful diplomacy; it looks very much like external interference.

I simply do not trust the Alberta government's motives here.....if we want to keep Canada strong, we must stand firm against foreign bullying—not have our own provincial leaders do the bullying for them.
