“Cause it’s not what you’re given / But what you do with it / And it’s not the road less travelled / But how you choose to live”
We have been reflecting on the passing of Dublin-born singer-songwriter Glen Hansard, a profound loss for the Irish music scene and beyond.
He did not need a microphone to amplify the words that lived inside him, and this was proved time and time again throughout his career. He shed the Academy and Grammy Awards, critical acclaim and sold-out shows to simply show up as the storyteller and man he was.
Our thoughts are with everyone who loved him, his family, and those whose lives were changed by him.

The British left famine in every country they administered long enough.
Ireland. India. Bengal. East Africa.
The Bengal famine of 1943.
Three million people.
Dead from starvation while India was under British administration, while India was producing food that was being exported, while Winston Churchill, who is on the British five-pound note, said the famine was the Indians' own fault for "breeding like rabbits" and blocked international aid shipments from reaching the subcontinent.
Three million people.
Churchill has a statue in Parliament Square.
There is no memorial in London to the Bengal famine.
There is no memorial in London to the Irish famine, caused in significant part by the continuation of food exports from a starving country because the market required it.
There is no memorial to the victims of British-administered famines anywhere in Britain that carries the weight and specificity of the crime.
What Britain has, instead, is a Churchill War Rooms museum where you can buy a Churchill bobblehead in the gift shop.
This is not forgetting.
Forgetting is passive.
This is the active, maintained, institutionally supported decision that certain deaths count as history and others count as the unfortunate background against which great men made great decisions.
The man who blocked aid to a starving country is the great man.
The three million are the background.
Bibi Netanyahu: “We're a democracy fighting the barbarians. And in New York City, the mayor celebrates the barbarians.”
Israel is not a democracy. It is an ethno-fascist colony that has committed genocide by slaughtering over 100,000 Palestinians.

Glen Hansard’s funeral will be at St Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin on Tuesday afternoon. It will be open to the public, with music from Glen's friends and family.

Tell us again who the "terrorists" are.

Israel detonated 700 tons of explosives beneath Beaufort Castle in South Lebanon, in the middle of the night.

“We are having people being arrested before they've said anything—people who were just making the way for poems. If this was happening in Russia or China, people would be outraged.”
Speaking outside Westminster Magistrates Court, Tim Crosland of Defend Our Juries detailed the chaotic police intervention targeting peaceful solidarity actions for Gaza. Over 1,500 people—many of them pensioners—were listed to appear on charges under anti-terror legislation for holding signs, only to face court administrative delays.
When organizers set up a simple step stand to allow poets to share readings and songs for Gaza, police swept in, arresting two people and placing them in painful rear hand-restraints under anti-terror and serious crime provisions. Shortly after, a facilitator was arrested simply for speaking to the crowd without amplification.

THE LAW IS AN ASS‼️
Today 1,855 people were arraigned as terrorists at Westminster Crown Court.
For expressing an opinion.
A high proportion of them elderly. Several in wheelchairs.
This now is fascism.
