@angus_davidson@henningsanden Assumption though imho, and if legal approved it, they must be confident they’re getting k. Fact is, GenAi is being used and if more do their diligence, that will be it. It’s here to stay.
@angus_davidson@henningsanden I’m not sure that’s 100% correct. If someone is using GenAi powered tools, I don’t believe that means it’s simply open season. Especially when custom models could be used, that are being trained using specific data derived from IP.
@angus_davidson@henningsanden Not sure studios can afford to wait, they have to start looking at ways to adopt, in some way. It doesn’t have to be about the final image. Many are sitting on vast amounts of their own pipeline data, that can be used to train a model without copyright infringement.
@angus_davidson@henningsanden Depends on the use. People immediately think it’s only about the final output and pixel. But there are other uses. The genie’s out of the bottle, so studios will need to embrace it in some way.
@angus_davidson@henningsanden But all the main vendors provide their free for education, no?
After education that will be different for users of course.
@xanzuls@angus_davidson@henningsanden It’s not about just procedural though. Houdini has had every beat for decades. It’s about how to implement GenAi into pipelines and workflows, while maintaining the integrity of the human artist.
@xanzuls@angus_davidson@henningsanden My personal view is that Blender has have ‘firsts’ but it’s not been a big enough innovator imho. I’ve been to many studios over the years, including on your list and yes there’s Blender, but Maya, Max, Houdini was the true backbone of entire pipelines and remains so, imho.
@xanzuls@angus_davidson@henningsanden The key point though. Maya, Blender et all, are all somewhat long in the tooth now. With GenAI we’re entering a new era of content creation. These packages all have to evolve and adapt. Whoever can do that, could have a huge influence.
@xanzuls@angus_davidson@henningsanden Blender is a great package, feature rich and indeed loved by its community. And while it’s has many ‘firsts’ it’s hardly been the first mover in every area. Imho it’s not done big enough things to turn heads and make users and studios switch in droves. Maya/Houdini/C4D has…cont
