This past Saturday, I had the honor of presenting a Mayoral Salute to Andrene’s Caribbean & Soul Food Restaurant in Ward 4 with Mr. Andrew Shapiro MOCRS business liaison, community leaders, stakeholders, and representatives from the Main Streets initiative.
“On behalf of more than 700,000 residents of the District of Columbia
I am proud and honored to salute
Andrene’s Caribbean & Soul Food Cafe
In recognition of 20 years, in business in Washington DC. The salute honors the enduring value of small businesses and the indispensable role they play in cultivating and connecting communities.
Andrene’s two decades of dedicated commitment to their loyal customers in the Manor Park and Petworth neighborhood, and the greater Caribbean community have helped to strengthen our local economy and highlight DC as a place where businesses can grow and thrive.
We are grateful to Andrene for bringing the distinct atmosphere and flavors of the islands to DC- may her legacy continue to flourish and inspire Washingtonians across all eight wards!” -MMB

Director @aaronlmyers attended the 2026 Flag Day Observance, hosted by @secretaryofdc. The event celebrated the history and significance of both the American and DC flags, while also spotlighting the artistic ways residents connect with the District’s identity
I’m extremely proud of this photo with our Mayor and Caribbean colleagues in District government.
We touch the everyday lives of Washingtonians collectively contributing to each and everyone’s success stories from the DC Public Library, to the Department of Health, to the Department of Motor Vehicles.
In every department, at every agency there is a member of the Caribbean community working hard for the betterment of Washingtonians.
Sometimes we do this work very quietly, many not realizing we are also immigrants facing some of the same struggles as our fellow immigrants.
We always move with grace and grit, even when we disagree, because we know We Are One Caribbean.
Happy Caribbean Heritage Month!!
