The Iberian peninsula that Spain and Portugal now share was once a single Roman province called Hispania.

Spain won the World Cup in 2010. And now again in 2026.

So in a sense, Hispania has two World Cups. And if you follow that logic to its tip, Cristiano Ronaldo, son of the peninsula, has finally won two himself.

When Portugal host the World Cup in 2030, FIFA should consider giving Cristiano his two World Cup medals. Even if honorary. To celebrate that Hispanic history.

I hope you are not following Cristiano Ronaldo's fanboys posting as "sports journalists."

If you follow any "sports journalist" who claims this World Cup stained Messi's legacy, understand what that makes you. You are the lowest common denominator such a "journalist" could ever hope to reach.

Messi dominated this tournament. Eight goals, four assists, twelve contributions. A leader across nearly every attacking metric. A hat-trick to open it. The first man ever to pass 20 goals at the World Cup.

He came into it as the only two-time Golden Ball winner in history and the first man to start three finals, already the most decorated footballer who ever lived, and at 39 he was still the reason Argentina reached the final.

That he lost the final cannot change a word of that. If a journalist cannot separate one match from a whole tournament, from a whole legacy, and that source is who you turn to for football, you are being fed junk dressed as analysis.

There’s nothing you want to say about Messi that Ronaldo didn’t achieve first UCL, Ballon d’Or, international trophies. He’s been second always.

That’s what makes this rivalry so special. Both are all-time greats, but so many of the biggest career landmarks were first achieved by Ronaldo before Messi matched them. Ronaldo always make well for his little brother. That’s why Messi is my favorite second person in the world.
