PRESS RELEASE
TINUBU WILL ANNOUNCE FUEL TAX ON INAUGURATION DAY IF RE-ELECTED, ADC WARNS
-Say Pump Price May Rise Above N1,500.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has warned that President Bola Tinubu’s planned implementation of fuel tax may be announced on inauguration day, if he’s re-elected, thereby pushing petrol prices beyond N1,500 per litre and worsening the already devastating cost-of-living crisis confronting millions of Nigerians.
ADC was reacting to Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele’s disclosure on the sidelines of the IMF meeting in Bangkok, Thailand, that the government would introduce the fuel tax when economic conditions improve.
The National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi; however said the government’s real plan is to activate the tax law once Tinubu is re-elected.
“They have already enacted the law for a 5% tax on fuel under the Nigeria Tax Act. And President Tinubu has signed it into law since June 2025. If they are not activated it yet, its because of re-election. Once Tinubu is re-elected, he will announce the new tax law on the inauguration ground, just as he did for fuel subsidy in 2023,” Abdullahi said.
The party warned that at a petrol price of N1,450 per litre, a five per cent surcharge passed directly to consumers would raise the price to N1,522.50, with potentially devastating consequences for transportation, food distribution, small businesses and household expenditure.
“This Tinubu-led APC never runs out of new ways to make survival more expensive. Each time Nigerians struggle to recover from one punishing policy, another burden is waiting around the corner. A government that has already removed fuel subsidies and subjected citizens to unprecedented economic pressures should be discussing relief, not preparing additional taxes.”
The ADC questioned the administration’s justification that the proposed tax would support road infrastructure and fuel-price stabilisation, insisting that Nigerians deserve measurable improvements before being asked to shoulder further financial obligations.
“We recall that as governor of Lagos State, in December 2003, Tinubu vehemently opposed the fuel tax being contemplated by the Obasanjo administration, describing it as “double taxation” that placed unfair burden on citizens. Now, Tinubu does not care if the people are burdened to death,” ADC said.
The party urged Nigerians to embrace the fuel production subsidy being proposed by its Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. “It’s the only way to bring down, not only the cost of fuel, but also the cost of living generally,” the party said.

BOLA AND EBOLA: WHERE DID THE ₦10 BILLION GO? — ATIKU
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the Tinubu administration’s failure to account for the ₦10 billion approved for Ebola preparedness, saying the confirmed case in Abuja has exposed a dangerous breakdown in the government’s response. He also warned against using the outbreak to suppress political activity and discourage Nigerians from voting.
In a statement by Phrank Shaibu, Director of Strategic Communication of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, Atiku said:
“Ebola is a grave public health threat. Nigerians deserve urgent action, competent leadership and the truth. Instead, the first confirmed case in Abuja has exposed unanswered questions about preparedness, surveillance and the protection of health workers. Tinubu must account for the ₦10 billion he said would be released immediately in June.
“Where is the money? Publish the amount actually disbursed, the dates of payment, every contract awarded, every recipient and every item delivered. If the money was not released, Tinubu must explain why he announced emergency funding that never reached the people responsible for protecting Nigerians. A press statement cannot replace an audit.
“The timeline is damning. The patient arrived in Nigeria on October 5, developed symptoms on October 7 and sought care at a private hospital on October 11. The government did not confirm the case publicly until October 20, nine days after she sought care. During that critical period, 44 close contacts were left unmonitored, while private health workers faced the case without adequate protective equipment. This is a failure of preparedness with potentially grave consequences.
“The government must disclose what happened at every stage. What travel history and exposure screening were conducted? What follow-up began when the patient developed symptoms? When were the 44 contacts first reached and monitored? Why were frontline staff left without the protection they needed? Nigerians deserve answers, and those responsible for these failures must be held accountable.
“In June, Tinubu announced a Presidential Task Force chaired by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila. Today, Nigerians must ask whether political appointees have been allowed to overshadow the medical experts who should lead this response. The NCDC, epidemiologists, doctors and public health professionals must be in charge, with the authority and resources to act. Political titles cannot trace contacts, equip hospitals or save lives.
“Nigerians are already battling the economic hardship created by Tinubu’s policies. Now the government’s failure to prepare and respond threatens to deepen public anxiety and disrupt movement, livelihoods and economic activity. The people must not pay twice for the same failure: first through hardship, then through a bungled emergency response. Both caused by Bola.
“I am also alarmed by confirmed information that the Minister of Health’s press conference tomorrow is intended to discourage Nigerians from attending campaign rallies and, ultimately, from voting. It is ridiculous that the same Minister of Health, whose entire ministry was funded with N35 million disbursement in 2025 appropriation and was not involved in the Ebola prevention programme is now being promoted to make health emergency announcements.
We find the reports that the Nigerian Presidency (@officialABAT) and its agents are allegedly plotting to assassinate former Nigerian Vice President @atiku Abubakar very troubling. Despite a reported $9 million D.C. engagement and $700 billion in mines, they can't beat him in D.C., they can't beat him in Nigeria, so their only option is to kill him.
President @realDonaldTrump has survived multiple assassination attempts, so we know the lengths evil people will go to to stop change. Dr. Von Batten fully intends to bring these latest allegations against Nigerian President Bola Tinubu to the attention of the Trump Administration and Congress.
The United States has given President #Tinubu enough rope. A word of advice to President Tinubu and company: Do not test the United States and President Trump with a political assassination that will cause geopolitical shockwaves and force the United States to act. It will not end well for you.

“The North-West nominee to INEC, Prof. Mustapha Aliu, is the maternal brother of Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu, the APC candidate in the upcoming governorship election.
“Think about the implications. This is a relationship that raises serious questions about impartiality, public confidence and the credibility of the electoral process.
“Section 156(1)(a) of the Constitution prohibits membership of a political party by an INEC member. The principle is clear: electoral referees must not only be impartial, they must be seen to be impartial.
“We join all well meaning Nigerians in calling on the Senate to subject this nomination to rigorous scrutiny and reject the nomination based on partiality.
“Nigeria cannot afford an electoral umpire whose impartiality is in doubt. The credibility of INEC in 2027 demands answers before confirmation, not explanations after the election.”

PRESS STATEMENT
TINUBU WANTS ANOTHER TERM, BUT ASHAMED TO FACE THE PEOPLE — ATIKU
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said President Bola Tinubu cannot ask Nigerians for four more years while sending governors, ministers and defectors across the country to defend the hardship of the past three and a half.
In a statement issued by Phrank Shaibu, Director of Strategic Communication of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, Atiku said: "Tinubu says he may miss campaign rallies because Nigeria needs his attention. Where was that urgency when Nigerians pleaded for relief?
He has had three and a half years to govern. In that time, families have been forced to cut meals, postpone medical care and watch their earnings lose value before they get home."
“Now he wants another mandate. Before asking Nigerians for one, he must face them and account for the first term.
“Let him look a mother in the eye and explain what his government has done to make food affordable. Let him tell pensioners why they cannot afford their medicines. Let him explain to young Nigerians why years of study and hard work have still not brought them decent jobs.
“Tinubu says American creditors cannot wait. Nigerians cannot wait either. They have bills to pay, children to feed and lives to rebuild. They deserve a President who treats their suffering with the same urgency he gives creditors and investors.”
“Instead, he is assembling a crowd of politicians to speak for him. He can fill every campaign stage in Nigeria. He cannot fill an empty pot with surrogates. He cannot send a politician into a market to persuade prices to fall.
“The people on his campaign council did not receive the mandate in 2023. Tinubu did. He made the promises. He took the decisions. He must face the questions.
“Nigerians will hear whatever his surrogates have to say. But when they vote, they will remember what they have lived through. No crowd of politicians can stand between Tinubu and his record.”

Projects in Lagos, Campaign in Kaduna Amid Insecurity: What Will Tinubu Promise Now?
By Mohammed Bello Doka
11 October, 2026.
On December 3, 2023, a Nigerian Army drone struck Tudun Biri in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing at least 85 civilians who had gathered for a religious celebration. Among the dead were women, children, and the elderly. President Bola Tinubu did not visit. On September 2024, another military airstrike hit Giwa Local Government Area, killing at least 24 more civilians in what the military called a mistaken targeting of bandits. President Tinubu did not visit. In September 2025, bandits descended on Kachia Local Government Area and abducted 152 people in a single operation. President Tinubu did not visit. In July 2025, windstorms and heavy rainfall devastated five local government areas, displacing 6,172 people and killing six. President Tinubu did not visit. In August 2024, bandits attacked communities in Kajuru Local Government Area, killing four, injuring three, and abducting thirty-seven. President Tinubu did not visit. In September 2025, floods submerged parts of Zaria Local Government Area, affecting 476 people. President Tinubu did not visit.
Now, after three and a half years of blood, tears, and silence, the APC has chosen Kaduna as the launchpad for its 2027 presidential campaign. The same Kaduna where 85 people were buried in a mass grave after a Nigerian drone bombed them. The same Kaduna where 152 people were carted away into forests by bandits while the president was in Lagos commissioning buses. The same Kaduna where communities have been orphaned by airstrikes, emptied by kidnappings, and drowned by floods. What exactly is Tinubu coming to tell the people of Kaduna? What is he coming to promise again?
Since May 29, 2023, President Tinubu has visited Kaduna exactly twice. The first was a one-day working visit in June 2025 to commission a vocational training institute, a 300-bed specialist hospital, and 100 CNG buses, most of which were state government projects. The second was a private visit in September 2025 to attend a wedding and condole with the widow of a former president. Two visits in three and a half years. Not one of those visits was to console the victims of Tudun Biri. Not one was to visit the families of the 152 abducted in Kachia. Not one was to assess the damage in Giwa after another military misfire. Not one was to stand with the flood victims in Zaria. Not one was to confront the bandits in Kajuru. Instead, he flew to Kaduna for a wedding, shook hands, took photographs, and flew back to Abuja.
Compare that to his attention to Lagos. In Lagos, Tinubu has commissioned the first 30 kilometres of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, a project estimated at over one trillion naira. In Lagos, he has rehabilitated the Third Mainland Bridge at a cost of 43 billion naira and built a 2.5 billion naira CCTV monitoring centre. In Lagos, he inaugurated the Red Line Rail, a 37-kilometre project costing over 135 million dollars. In Lagos, he commissioned CNG infrastructure in Ojota, part of a 100 billion naira national rollout, with four major projects in a single day. In Lagos, the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano road, a project inherited from Buhari, was revoked and re-awarded at a higher cost, while the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway received 43 billion naira for phase two. Lagos is where the president's heart beats. Kaduna is where his promises go to die.
Kaduna is bleeding under the incompetent APC government of Uba Sani. Bandits have turned Millennium City into a hunting ground abducting families, including a pregnant woman, a couple and their 6-month-old baby from Alrahus Estate, while demanding hundreds of millions. This is failure, not governance.
From the Kuriga school mass abduction in 2024, to Kurmin Wali churchgoers in January 2026, to repeated raids in Danhonu, Sabon Gyero, Kyauta and Keke this year hundreds taken under Uba Sani’s watch. His “Peace Model” has delivered only denials, empty visits and more victims. Residents now live in fear near the capital. APC has failed Kaduna.
We demand the immediate and safe return of all abducted persons. May Almighty Allah protect them, strengthen their families and bring them home unharmed. Security is the first duty of government this administration has abdicated it. Kaduna deserves better.
The disturbing video of Ahmed Zakka, reportedly abducted alongside his wife and infant child in Kaduna State, is a painful reminder of the insecurity that continues to threaten lives and tear families apart across Nigeria.
No Nigerian should have to plead for their life or the safety of their family in the hands of criminals. The thought of an infant caught in this ordeal is especially heartbreaking. I urge the relevant security agencies to act swiftly and decisively to secure the safe release of Ahmed Zakka, his wife, their child and every other Nigerian still held in captivity.
This tragedy comes as families are already struggling with the crushing cost of living. Nigerians are battling the rising cost of food, transport and other essentials; they should not also have to live in fear of being abducted in their homes or on the roads. Insecurity deepens hardship, disrupts livelihoods and leaves families bearing both emotional and financial burdens they can scarcely afford.
The government must move beyond assurances and deliver an effective, sustained response: rescue those in captivity, protect vulnerable communities and dismantle the networks responsible for these crimes. Every Nigerian deserves to live, work and raise a family without the constant fear of violence.
My thoughts and prayers are with the Zakka family and all families enduring the trauma of kidnapping. The protection of every Nigerian life must remain an overriding responsibility of government. —AA
He destroyed Landmark & people’s lives & businesses just to open up a coastal road that leads to his personal real estate development with Gilbert Chagoury. A very wicked soul.
Amnesty International strongly condemns the unlawful and outrageous blocking of the venue of a “Tinubu-Must-Go” event today in Kano. Heavily armed police blocked both ends of the road leading to the venue of the event.
The Nigeria Police @PoliceNG must desist from such reckless violation of human rights. It is perfectly within the rights of supporters of all candidates and all political parties to carry out peaceful political activities.
The duty of the police is to facilitate peaceful conduct of such political gatherings — no matter the political party or candidate being supported or opposed. Freedom of association and peaceful assembly is not exclusive to one political party and its supporters.
The Kano incident is part of a troubling pattern of repression by police targeting opposition members in various parts of the country. Such repeated attacks and intimidation against opposition supporters could make it more difficult for them to associate freely and hold peaceful public gatherings.
If Atiku didn’t put “cost of living crisis” on the front burner for this election, a section of the political elite would have continued pretending all is well and disturbing us with ethnic and religious sentiments.
God bless the Atikulates who kept their voice strong.
