Look at all the 🇺🇸 trade that's now happening without the Jones Act in effect.
And the Jones Act fleet is still fully booked. This is all extra shipping, from Americans to Americans, that's happening just because government got out of the way.
@hannahhill_sc@AAGDhillon Just to be clear: in 2025 (Denver's preferred year for comparisons) the homicide rate in Denver was 5.2 per 100K, while the state in total (including Denver!) was 3.4. Doesn't seem having the ban is superior to not having the ban.
@AWRHawkins@BreitbartNews 3% is for all rifles, thus "the category of guns that include 'assault weapons'". Actual AR-15 homicides is lower. My own analysis estimated it around 1%.
@scottlincicome@Knightwolfbr In some cases, the foreign exporter lowered their prices. Imagine the uproar if we started sending refund checks to Chinese companies! 3 parties involved- impossible to calculate tax incidence, so just refund who legally paid.
@JustinWolfers 3 parties involved: The US Corp paid the tariff, but some of that may show up as lower prices from the foreign exporter, lower profits for the US Corp, and/or higher prices for the consumer. It's infeasible to compensate all 3. Imagine the ruckus if refunds went to China!
@buttermaker45@MeatEaterTV Ha! I was going to say pronghorn #1, then either elk or moose. My wife and I love pronghorn, but many people don't favor it. Their loss.
@seandparnell@mattyglesias Agree. Otherwise the refunds for any illegal tax struck down by courts would be ensnarled in endless debates about tax incidence.
@sciencegirl Moon landings. NASA is so confident in American exceptionalism that it left the Lunar Rover, costing billions of dollars, unattended on the moon with the keys still in the ignition.
