The true power of a state begins with legitimacy, when citizens believe the state belongs to them and serves their common interests. Without legitimacy, disagreements widen between government and opposition, political divisions deepen, and armed opposition can emerge, creating openings for external actors to intervene. A strong state is not one that controls people through force, but one that earns their trust, protects their dignity, and unites them around a shared national purpose. As Somalis, can we must learn honestly from our history, recognize our mistakes, and have the courage not to repeat them.
Ma la gaaray waqtigii la nidaamin lahaa isticmaalka makarafoonnada codka dheer ee masaajidda?
Waxaan ku arkay arrintaan magaalada Muqdisho, halkaas oo codadka makarafoonnada masaajidda ay is dul saaraan, gaaraan meelo fog, mararka qaarna bilaabmaan saacadaha hore ee waaberiga, 3:00 am. Kor u qaadista codka sida xad-dhaafka ah waxay dhib iyo carqalad ku keeni kartaa carruurta, waayeelka, dadka buka, iyo qof kasta oo leh hawlo iyo masuuliyado u baahan deganaansho iyo feejignaan.
Waxyaabaha kale ee dhibka keena waxaa ka mid ah duruusta iyo muxaadarooyinka masaajidda lagu bixiyo oo lagu sii daayo makarafoonnada dibadda, gaar ahaan salaadda maqrib ka dib, taas oo saameyn karta xasilloonida bulshada. Ujeeddada cibaadooyinka Islaamku waa in dadka la hanuuniyo oo diinta loo soo dhoweeyo, ee ma aha in dhib loo geysto; haddii codka dheer ee aan nidaamsanayn uu dadka ka caraysiiyo, waxaa dhici karta in halkii uu Islaamka dadka ugu soo dhoweyn lahaa uu qaar ka fogeeyo.
Ma habboon tahay in makarafoonnada dibadda lagu koobo aadaanka oo keliya, halka iqaamada, salaadda iyo duruustaba lagu qabto gudaha masaajidka iyadoo la adeegsanayo makarafoonnada gudaha? Sidee loo heli karaa isu-dheellitir u dhexeeya xurmeynta shacaa'irta Islaamka iyo ilaalinta raaxada iyo xuquuqda dadka? Arrintan waxay u baahan tahay dood deggan oo ay yeeshaan culimada, hay’adaha awqaafta, imaamyada masaajidda iyo bulshada si loo dejiyo nidaam dan guud ah oo waafaqsan ujeeddooyinka shareecada.
Somalia has officially acceded to the AfCFTA!
Proud to lead the Ministry as we enter this crucial next chapter—opening a $3.4 trillion market of 1.4B people to Somali businesses and exporters.
See the attached press release for more details.
I teach postgraduate courses on Somali history, society, and politics. I deliberately conduct oral examinations because I want to measure understanding, not memorization. These are graduates of different universities and working in different sectors. the very people who will become our future leaders, policymakers, educators, and professionals.
Yet, time and again, I leave the examination room with a heavy heart. I am deeply saddened by how little many of our brightest graduates know about Somalia's history, politics, and society. How can we rebuild a nation if those entrusted with its future do not fully understand its past? How can we solve today's problems without knowing how they came to be?
This is not a failure of our students; it is a wake-up call for all of us. The Ministry of Education, our schools, and our universities must urgently rethink what we teach and how we teach it. Somalia needs a curriculum that produces informed citizens, critical thinkers, and responsible leaders—young men and women who know their country, cherish its heritage, understand its challenges, and are prepared to build a better future. A nation that forgets itself cannot lead itself. The time to act is now.
Lots of brouhaha about that regional MP from Northeast State who announced she “has abandoned the Greater Somalia cause” and joined the secessionists.
To those reading too much into it, a reminder: not so long ago, Jama Gabush, sitting to my left in this photo, was with us in Garbaharrey as a staunch unionist.
On the question of union or secession in Somalia, positions shift with the wind.

A prominent MP in the Somali Federal Parliament in Mogadishu who is also a political activist intimately involved in Mogadishu's project to fragment the north, carve out a new regional government in Laas Anood says she has renounced the 'Greater Somalia' ideology and was returning to Somaliland.
Fihiima Yusuf Abdullahi aka Fihiima Quujje's return to Somaliland widely interpreted as signal of growing rift/disarray within the core Dhulbahante clan and political factions involved in the establishment of the so-called Northeastern State of Somalia (NES).
A clan leader from the Dhulbahante backed Ms Quujje's defection, attributed it to the poor leadership of the man named president of NES, Abdiqadir Ahmed Aw Ali 'Firdhiye'
Firdhiye has been away the last two months from Laas Anood ostensibly to seek foreign support for the enclave after Mogadishu failed to fulfil its pledges of massive injection of cash.
The US does not have a Senate-confirmed ambassador in more than 40 African nations. Washington negotiates high-stakes deals (like the US-brokered DRC-Rwanda peace agreement) often through envoys like Massad Boulos, who is the father-in-law of President Donald Trump's youngest daughter, Tiffany Trump, rather than resident ambassadors. What does the African political class learn when they look at this?
My Schhol:
We invite you to show your support by signing this statement and joining us in affirming a collective stance against the recent attacks, as well as upholding our constitutional values. The future of all Africans is interconnected. As Kwame Nkrumah reminded us: “Africa must unite or perish.”
We would greatly appreciate it if you could sign and share this with your networks: https://t.co/c0Xwg3HxtB
🚨BREAKING: The outgoing Somali President Hassan Sheikh left @TheVillaSomalia for the Halane compound to meet with the Somali Future Council, per sources.
Facilitated by the U.S. and the U.K., the closed-door meeting focuses on the electoral impasse as the current Government's 4-year mandate ends in 2 days.
The opposition is proposing an enhanced indirect election model, while the Federal Government remains committed to its "one person, one vote" plan. #Somalia
China's dominance ?
China has established itself as the world's premier manufacturing superpower, contributing roughly 30% of global manufacturing value-added and acting as the largest exporter in nearly 60% of product categories. Back in 2005 it was not yet visible. But now 🫢🫣

South Africa, DRC dominate global supply of two valuable metals now hitting multi-year highs
Prices for ruthenium and tantalite, two critical metals for electronics, aerospace, and AI technologies, have surged to multi-year highs as global demand intensifies and supply remains tightly constrained.
Six Southern African countries are cutting mobile roaming charges by as much as 98.6% as part of a regional effort to make cross-border communication cheaper and support digital trade.

Benin’s president, Patrice Talon, has been toppled by his army in a military coup in that West African country. Patrice Talon has been in power since 6 April 2016.
Before becoming president, Talon was a very successful businessman and one of the most influential figures in Benin’s private sector.
Benin, formerly Dahomey, experienced six successful military coups between 1963 and 1972, as well as two unsuccessful attempts. The country became independent from France on 1 August 1960.
At this moment, there are four West African countries under military rule, namely Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso, and Guinea. Benin becomes the fifth after today’s coup.
