The Republic of Somaliland is not Somalia.
History is full of failed unions that ended:

• Iraq–Jordan (1958) — Arab Federation
• Egypt–Syria (1958–61) — United Arab Republic
• Senegal–Mali (1959–60) — Mali Federation
• Singapore–Malaysia (1963–65) — Federation of Malaysia
• Senegal–Gambia (1982–89) — Senegambia Confederation

Why is Somaliland treated differently?
The agreed 1960 Act of Union was never signed by both sides.

BREAKING: Somalia's President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud used remarks that critics have described as antisemitic, saying: "The Jews are a bad people, and welcoming them is a disgrace. You have nothing to do with them; your Somali brothers are the ones who matter to you."
The comments were made during Somalia's July 1 commemoration and have drawn condemnation from critics, who say the rhetoric targets #Jewish people.
