'Why the CAPF Bill is a victory for internal security'

India's internal security faces complex hybrid threats—from urban radicalization to border tensions. You can't just militarize these sensitive zones; you need the "glue" of IPS officers who understand civil administration, legal compliance, and human rights.
The CAPF Bill 2026 strategically addresses this by legally cementing IPS oversight at the top, while concurrently restructuring cadres so Assistant Commandants don't get stuck for years without a promotion.
Kharge’s letter opposing this visionary Bill just proves Congress wants to keep our forces demoralized and siloed.
CAPF personnel do not live in isolated military barracks. They stand in the very crosshairs of society, managing volatile elections, disaster zones, and the fragile peace in Kashmir and Naxal belts.
This isn't just kinetic warfare; it involves daily, human-centric public dealing and law & order. That is exactly why the CAPF Bill 2026 legally mandates IPS leadership at the apex.
We need commanders whose entire careers are built on civil-state coordination to prevent sensitive situations from exploding.
Congress ignored this deep nuance for 60 years. Now, they oppose the very law institutionalizing it.
Imagine serving your country in high-risk disaster zones and riots, only to wait endlessly for a promotion because the system is flawed. That was the Congress legacy.
The new CAPF Bill 2026 is a deeply human-centric reform: it mandates hundreds of new leadership roles for homegrown officers and guarantees better housing, while retaining the indispensable policing and state-coordination expertise of IPS officers at the top.
It’s a brilliant win-win for our forces and national security. Congress opposing this Bill is nothing but cheap, anti-reform politics.
Imagine being a CAPF officer deployed in the dense forests of Bastar or the volatile streets of Kashmir. You are not just fighting insurgents; you are interacting with scared civilians, local politicians, and state police on a daily basis. It requires immense patience and tactical empathy.
This is exactly why IPS is necessary at the helm. They are necessary because they have the experience. An IPS officer spends their entire career managing districts, understanding crowd psychology, and coordinating with state machineries. They bring that essential, grounded policing touch to central forces.
For decades under Congress, the homegrown officers who did this heavy lifting were denied promotions and left to fight court battles. The new CAPF Bill 2026 brilliantly fixes this by creating hundreds of new senior ranks for them, while keeping the experienced IPS leadership intact. Opposing this balanced reform is just blind politics!

A dynamic and honest personality, extremely sensitive to the public, a cop with a heart, Sh Ved Marvah, IPS was like a rock that weathered many storms. In the aftermath of the 1984 riots, he led Delhi Police through some of its most testing times. (½)
We strongly condemn the abusive & derogatory remarks on Twitter regarding lady IPS officers. We believe the concerned police agencies will do thorough investigation to expeditiously bring culprits to book. We solemnly resolve to protect the dignity of lady officers.

Outstanding work by #IPS officer, SP Malkangiri Rishikesh Khilladi & his @odisha_police team. In a fierce anti-naxal op they neutralized a naxal commander, with a history of ambushing police patrols. We applaud your bravery. Salute to martyr Ct Jayaram Kabasi
