Whoa. I just purchased Apollo 14 LM Pilot Ed Mitchell's flown hand controller. My space collection focuses on parts of the spacecraft that landed on the moon and were smuggled back to Earth, contrary to protocol. They would have been lost forever but for intrepid astronauts that thought we should keep relics from these heroic spacecraft. It blows my mind that such things can be owned; it took an act of Congress to clarify that they are the property of the astronauts that salvaged them from the spacecraft.

In this case, Mitchell practiced "field stripping" his hand controller from the LM during training, a process he had down to three minutes.

He proudly displayed this unit on the desk in his study, housed in a custom-made wooden case until he passed away, and I purchased it from his family. This completes my collection of LM hardware from all of the missions that landed on the moon.
