On the Financial Times, @martinwolf_ lists my book as one of the 'best summer economics books':
'original and provocative work on how to combine freedom with prosperity...radical...might not be workable. But it is definitely attractive'

hey! this is well timed.
I just developed a new lecture on "AI for Innovation" where I argued the same -- "Sometimes you understand the future better by stepping backward." -- and we spent lots of time on how AlphaGo works (as a positive case where we might really have gotten novel innovation and superhuman performance), and we developed a framework for what would have to be true for similar wins in other domains (energy, health, education ...).

“The newsroom, which had about 45 people at the beginning of the year, will probably more than double to 95 journalists by the end of the year.” I’m happy to be one of them.
I am leaving the Washington Post to join a new journalistic venture backed by Politico founder Robert Allbritton that will be both the hometown publication the D.C. region sorely needs and a scrappy and fearless national news organization. I hope you'll join us.

Taking the literature as a whole, the global consequences of unmitigated climate change are likely to be substantial, unequal, harmful in aggregate, and potentially destabilizing, from Solomon Hsiang https://t.co/i3mQFiHxmN
This Nobel reminds us that economic growth is not just about numbers, it’s about knowledge & innovation.
Mokyr, Aghion, & Howitt helped us see growth as the co-evolution of ideas, networks, and culture.
Knowledge shapes our future, and today we celebrate its role in making us all more prosperous.
Today's economics Nobel went for explaining economic growth with "creative destruction" (Aghion & Howitt) and "technological progress" (Mokyr). As much as both those things mean innovation, it's interesting how different the academic paths of the laureates are:

After two years of unimaginable loss and suffering for Israeli families and the people of Gaza, we should all be encouraged and relieved that an end to the conflict is within sight; that those hostages still being held will be reunited with their families; and that vital aid can start reaching those inside Gaza whose lives have been shattered. More than that, though, it now falls on Israelis and Palestinians, with the support of the U.S. and the entire world community, to begin the hard task of rebuilding Gaza – and to commit to a process that, by recognizing the common humanity and basic rights of both peoples, can achieve a lasting peace.
