Whenever I see someone sleeping on the bus or train I think “wow I’m so glad they have at least somewhere they can sleep and don’t need to be on high alert for their safety” then I move on with my day

- The rate of maternal deaths in TX rose 33% btwn 2019 + 2023 even as national rate fell by 7.5%

A lot folks forget that a 2 hour flight is actually 5-6 hours - an hour to get to the airport, 90+ minutes of TSA and boarding, 2 hours in flight, another hour dealing with ground transportation to the destination. A 6 hour high speed train is a competitive replacement.
My entire scientific career I have been cautioning against climate doomerism. It’s dangerously unhealthy for young people and leads into apathy.
Humanity won on ozone depletion. Much of the world has been successful on acid rain and air pollution. Climate is winnable.
Not to get too sappy but I had to write a ton of discharge summaries yesterday which was actually very wonderful bc it meant we got all of those people out in time to spend thanksgiving with their families
Weird how the administration that ran on protecting Roe (lol) and canceling student debt (my payments went up by $2k every month), and is hated for actively funding a genocide by its most likely constituent base, is losing
While we may have gotten an extra hour of sleep this morning, it's not worth the hour of sunlight we're losing for the next 6 months.
Let's stop changing the clocks and finally make Daylight Saving Time permanent.
