BREAKING: Israeli settler Yona Schreiber from the West Bank settlement of Peduel, who brutally assaulted a French Catholic nun in the Old City of Jerusalem, has been acquitted of the criminal charges against him.

The Jerusalem Magistrate's Court accepted the opinion of the district psychiatrist, who determined that Schreiber was in a psychotic state at the time and not responsible for his actions.

Schreiber was acquitted on those grounds and ordered to undergo psychiatric hospitalization.

On September 17, 1948 - the day after Count Bernadotte submitted his report advocating Palestinian right of return - four Lehi operatives ambushed his motorcade in Jerusalem and killed him.

Bernadotte was not a random diplomat. He was the man who had rescued over 30,000 prisoners from Nazi concentration camps through negotiations with Heinrich Himmler in the final months of the war. He saved more Jews from the Holocaust than almost any other individual.

His final report to the UN Secretary-General stated: 'It would be an offense against the principles of elemental justice if these innocent victims of the conflict were denied the right to return to their homes, while Jewish immigrants flow into Palestine.'

The man who saved 30,000 Jews from Nazi death camps was assassinated by Jewish extremists for defending Palestinian rights.

The brains behind the assassination: Yitzhak Shamir - future Prime Minister of Israel (1983-1992).

Israel arrested and tried some Lehi members for the murder. They were pardoned almost immediately.

UN Resolution 194 - adopted December 1948 - affirmed the right of return for Palestinian refugees. It has never been implemented.

Over a period of around three weeks, Jason Arday, a university professor, faced unprecedented scrutiny that culminated in his resignation and, shortly after, his death.

At the centre of it was a plagiarism finding he didn't dispute, explaining it instead as a product of inadequate supervision during his PhD, when his supervisory team was reportedly depleted and he received only one formal supervision session; Liverpool John Moores University, which had awarded the doctorate, investigated and did not uphold the plagiarism charge, attributing the issues to honest and reasonable error rather than deliberate deception.

Around that core allegation grew a wider set of claims about his career and biography, some of which turned out to be false: visiting professorships at Glasgow, Ohio State and Durham, all denied by the universities themselves; a master's degree from Birkbeck, which has no record of him studying there; and an account of a severed pig's head sent to his family home, which the Metropolitan Police denied ever investigating, and which the named butcher said he had no record of supplying.
