"Fireworks flared in Boston this week, featuring #Yankees Reggie Jackson who asked manager Billy Martin, what'd I do?" ~ Mel Allen (This Week In Baseball - June 1977) #TWIB#RedSox#MLB#SaturdayMorning
NR’s editorial on the MOU:
“State department official John Negroponte made the droll comment after Richard Nixon’s 1972 Christmas bombing campaign in North Vietnam that ‘we bombed them into accepting our concessions.’
A similar verdict seems appropriate for President Trump’s war on Iran.”

Dan Fouts and "The Epic In Miami"
In a game that many feel was the greatest in NFL history — the 1981 AFC Divisional Playoff, Fouts led the #Chargers to a dramatic 41-38 overtime victory over the Dolphins at The Orange Bowl.
He passed for a then-NFL postseason record 433 yards and three touchdowns in San Diego's win. #BoltUp
Cedric Maxwell on Pistol Pete Maravich and a rookie named Larry Bird:
“We come to a timeout and Pete says ‘Larry, they’re double-teaming you. You can’t force up those kind of shots.’
Larry looks up and goes ‘If you were any damn good, they wouldn’t be double-teaming me.'”
Happy “Heat Game” Day, if you’re observing it.
42 years ago tonight, June 8, 1984, the Celtics took a 3–2 lead in the Finals with a 121–103 win vs LA Lakers in Game 5.
Larry Bird went for 34pts and 17 rebounds, leading the team through what became known as the Heat Game. The old Boston Garden had no air‑conditioning, the building was a sauna, and temps outside hit 97°.
40 years ago today, June 8, 1986, Boston Celtics won their 16th title, hammering Houston Rockets 114–97 in Game 6.
Many still call that ’86 group the greatest Celtics team ever.
Larry Bird dropped a 29p‑12a‑11r triple‑double and took home Finals MVP.
And hard as it is to believe now, that clincher tipped off at 1 pm ET on a Sunday.
Happy Takedown Day, if you’re observing it.
42 years ago today, June 6, 1984, Kevin McHale clotheslined Kurt Rambis in the pivotal Game 4 of the ’84 Finals. No tech. No ejection. Just 1980’s basketball.
As 7‑point underdogs, the Celtics went on to beat LA 129–125 at the Forum.
