A delegation from Gulu University led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. George Ladaah Openjuru is currently in China for an important scientific collaboration and partnership with MP-Future Biotechnology Company Ltd.

The delegation comprises; VC Prof. George Ladaah who is leading the team, Prof. Richard Echodu-Technical Expert, John Nyeko-the University Busar, Dr. Joseph Opul among other delegates.

The collaboration focuses particularly on advancing point-of-care diagnostic test innovations for plants, humans, and animals for Africa. The partnership seeks to strengthen scientific research, technology development, knowledge exchange, and the translation of innovative diagnostic solutions into practical applications.

This engagement marks an important step toward building stronger international research partnerships and promoting cutting-edge biotechnology and diagnostic innovations for improved health, agriculture, and animal production.

I’m yet to fully understand the attacks on Dr Olara Otunu’s candidature by some Ugandans. I have read some, but I don’t think they’re strong enough as to justify decampaigning him. Indeed, being backed by a government that is grossly violating rights of dissenting Ugandans raises concern. However, we know that he can’t get there without the endorsement. It is a dilemma of sorts. We know though that he has never supported the human rights violations. On the contrary, when he was more active and whenever he has been asked, he has spoken against bad governance. I don’t think he is the kind of person whose principles and values the endorsement is going to change once he takes the position. I still stand by him.

As a Ugandan, it fills me with pride to see an illustrious son of our nation carry a lifetime of global service, a fierce commitment to the vulnerable, and a deep passion for justice to the world stage.

For years, many of us have followed with great respect, Ambassador Olara Otunnu’s incredible track record at the United Nations.

His work championing human rights and protecting children in armed conflict is exactly the kind of leadership the global community desperately needs right now. True leadership is measured by integrity, vision, and an unwavering dedication to peace and justice.

We can not forget the historical injustice when the Museveni regime vindictively denied him an endorsement for this very position years ago. They blocked him for simply refusing to stay silent about the atrocities they were committing against our people. Perhaps if he had risen to that position at the time, the world would be fairer, more just, and more peaceful.

Central to his vision is a profound passion for genuine multilateral reform, where international institutions must evolve beyond mere arenas of superpower politics to become true instruments of equity, accountability, and shared prosperity for all nations.

I hear some citizens who are raising tough questions about why the regime has suddenly changed its mind to endorse him now. Your scepticism is understandable, given what the bloodthirsty regime is doing to our people. And I know Ambassador Otunnu to be a man of deep humility who welcomes free speech and receives your concerns with grace. We can all bank on his long-term, proven integrity and hope that when he rises to become the world’s top diplomat, he will never turn a blind eye to the ongoing struggle for freedom in his own motherland. As he has consistently acknowledged, Uganda faces dark spots that need fixing.

Ambassador Otunnu has my full solidarity and prayers as he carries our collective aspirations for a fairer world to the global stage.

The United States government has reportedly sent a special envoy to Luzira Prison to check on American citizen Okello Onyum, who is serving a death sentence after being convicted over the murder of four school children.

Sources indicate that the US official visited Murchison Bay Prison, where Okello is being held, and met with him to assess his welfare and hear his concerns regarding his imprisonment.

Joining the army is the ultimate sacrifice. It is to put one’s life on the line for the defense of the country. You were not a pampered soldier. You fought wars, real wars, and have scars to show for it.
