When I was younger I used to look at what happened to Lot’s wife as really cruel because why turn someone into salt because they wanted to look at the only home they ever knew one last time? But after experiencing life a bit more, I see it as a mercy. She’d probably have
Everybody who tells you to trust the process and build systems and optimize your life is basically advising you to concrete over your own front yard. sure, now you've got a nice clean parking spot but nothing is growing there, nothing is going to grow there either. the most vivid shit that has ever happened to me happened because i was somewhere i had no plan to be, talking to someone i had no reason to talk to, doing something that sounded stupid when i explained it to my friends later. and look, i don't mean this in some law of attraction bullshit way. i mean it in a literal plain way that if you schedule your entire day from 6am to 10pm and your weekends look like your weekdays and your three day trip looks like a military operation, then you have succeeded in closing every single door that you didn't install personally. and the doors that you install yourself only lead to rooms you already know. seek and you shall find, but you made yourself unfindable to the thing that was seeking you
I noticed early that the brightest ones were often the most cold, and i didn't understand that for a long time. i thought intelligence was supposed to make you good, but it doesn't. it just makes you capable, and capable without something to kneel to is scarier than stupid ever was. the serpent was the cleverest animal in the garden, not the strongest, not the largest, the cleverest, and that is where the fall came from, not through ignorance, through the cold precision of a mind that could see through everything except its own hunger
Fear God for ten years straight, and when they watch you walk through something that should have destroyed you and ask how you're still standing, tell them you sleep early, and watch it eat them alive. because they wanted a secret, and the secret is they have no discipline and no God, and they know it
it is an unwritten rule of life that after every prolonged period of hardship and uncertainty, there is going to be a period when you are going to achieve quantum leaps across multiple areas of your life. the only requirement is that you do not give up on yourself
As you set your goals and targets, set a path that is enjoyable. Life still happens during the process. Your achievements should feel great but the process doesn't need to be harrowing for it to matter.
someone once said, every country has an energy. And that energy rewires you whether you notice it or not. People move to Japan and become minimal. People move to Mexico and their entire relationship with time softens. People move to New York and suddenly they can't sit still. Your personality is far more malleable than you think. We treat it like something fixed, but new surroundings give you new defaults. New pace. New habits. New values absorbed through proximity instead of effort.
Nairobi feels like a city stuck between potential & neglect. Every year, we talk about the same issues, drainage, garbage, and planning. Nothing really changes.
Beautiful, sunny morning. You know what, folks: it'll be alright. Not all of it. But something will give. Eventually. And if none does, you will build the resilience for it. And, maybe, if you are lucky, learn to see and soak in the silver linings. Today will be a beautiful day.
Not the way love is supposed to mean safety. Not the way love is supposed to mean “your nervous system is my responsibility too.” You can call what they felt desire, attachment, habit, fear, obsession, trauma-bond, but you cannot look at betrayal and label it love without lying to your own body.
Cheating is not a lightning strike. It is a staircase. There is the first message they did not need to answer. The second look they let linger. The notification they turned face down on the table. The story they told themselves in the shower - “it is harmless”, “it is nothing”, “I am just bored” - while somewhere in another room your toothbrush stood next to theirs like a very small witness. Every step was a choice. Every choice was a vote. None of those votes were for you.
People will say “they loved you, they just made a mistake.” A mistake is spilling coffee on your shirt because your hand shook. Cheating is picking the cup up, walking it across the room, and pouring it slowly on somebody’s shirt, then telling them they should not be so sensitive about stains. It is not clumsiness. It is convenience wearing your name like a discount tag.
If they loved you, really loved you, your body would not have learned betrayal from their hands. Love does not teach your jaw to clench when a phone lights up across the table. Love does not train your lungs to hold half a breath every time they say “I will be home late.” Love does not make you an unpaid detective, reading receipts like runes, staying up at 2:19 putting pins in a map of their lies. Love does not make you feel crazy for asking questions your gut already answered.
The person who cheats is not a monster. That is the problem. They are just a human who decided their urge mattered more than your reality. They wanted the high of being wanted without the weight of being responsible. They did not walk into a storm for you. They left you standing alone in the rain and called it “complicated.” That is not love. Love is not scared of boredom. Love is not allergic to the slow parts. Love does not need a side stage to feel alive.
Real love gets tempted too. Let us be honest. There will always be someone charming at 11:47 on a Thursday with a drink in their hand and an easy laugh. Real love feels the pull, sees the cliff, and steps back. Real love sends the message “I have someone” and means it. Real love blocks the number because “I am drunk” is not a good enough reason to gamble your heart. Real love comes home with a stupid story about karaoke and fries, not a ghost in its pocket.
If they loved you, the thought of you finding out would hurt them more than the thrill helps them. If they loved you, your face would come up before their fantasy, not after it. If they loved you, they would drag their own shadow into the light and say “I am restless, I am scared, I am not okay, can we talk” instead of going to another body to avoid their own reflection. Love chooses the hard conversation at 23:06 in the kitchen over the easy secret at someone else’s address.
You can feel something intense for a person and still not love them. You can miss them, crave them, ache for them, and still not love them. Love is not the size of emotion. It is the shape of behavior. Cheating is a shape that does not fit inside love. It fits inside hunger, ego, cowardice, unfinished grief. It fits inside the need to prove “I still have it” at the cost of “we still have us.” That is not neutral. That is extraction.
Here is the part that cuts: if they cheated, believe the data. Do not rebrand it. Do not say “deep down they loved me.” Deep down is not where your nervous system lives. You sleep in the shallow end. You wake in the shallow end. Your nightmares happen at the surface. You deserve a love that is honest there too. You deserve a person whose mouth and phone and body are on the same side as your nervous system.

At 7:41 the first ping arrives with a smiley and a question that was never yours. At 9:06 you fix the spreadsheet that ate Tuesday. At 10:03 you rewrite an email so it stops a fight. At 11:27 someone forwards a mess with the subject line thoughts. Your thoughts are a mop and a bucket. By lunch you have mopped the whole hallway. They clap by sending you another hallway.
They say thank you by adding you. The calendar grows teeth. The praise is always a task in a dress. You are dependable, which means you are a drain. Everything clogged finds you. The quiet breakage that never gets a ticket. The apology that never gets typed. The meeting that drips past the hour and stains your afternoon.
This is how good workers burn. Not in fire. In fluorescent. You do three jobs in the time it takes others to do one and the dividend goes to everyone but you. Your reward for invisibly preventing disaster is never disaster. Your punishment is to prevent it again tomorrow. You become the bucket under the leak. If you step away, the room finally hears the water. As long as you stand there, they learn nothing about roofs.
Competence collects interest. People borrow your nervous system to make payments on their own chaos. You loan it out until your chest is a bank with no vault door. You start dreaming in lists. You say I can take it and the universe believes you. It gives you more.
At 13:22 you teach your face how to look calm while your jaw grinds. At 15:40 you breathe in the bathroom because there is a lock and a sink and no requests. At 16:55 you rewrite the process in a clean document so no one will need you next time. At 17:02 they need you anyway because reading is slower than asking you directly. You go home with a silence that rattles.
There is a way out that is not quitting what you are good at. Name the work. Count it. Put numbers where your martyr used to be. Turn favors into a queue that other people can see. Stop triaging in private. The invisible labor stays invisible until you make it visible. The room will resent the light. Let it squint.
Say the sentences that save you. My capacity is full. I can do A or B, not both. If I take this, what moves off my plate. This request needs a ticket. I will help once, then I will show you how. I am not the bucket. Please fix the roof.
Teach the room to wait. Let one small fire die if it keeps you from the work that feeds everyone later. Not all urgency is real. Some of it is theater. If the problem was born in someone else’s pocket, do not carry it in your mouth. Put it down where it belongs and walk away. The first time will feel cruel. The second time will feel like oxygen.
Build a dull system so you can be brilliant on purpose. Templates. Checklists. A shared doc that steals your name off the easy questions. Office hours that put a fence around your attention. A calendar that defends you at the door. You will look less magical. Good. Magic is just unpaid labor with glitter on it.
When they say you are so fast, say I am fast because I say no. When they say you can handle it, say I can handle what we agreed on. When they say just this once, say then we will write it down and call it a rule or we will let it go. Do not donate your nervous system to people who refuse to set up their own.
What you are good at deserves a life around it, not a hole. Efficient is not bottomless. Efficient is accurate. Accurate means bounded. The work you keep should be the work that uses your gift and pays for your sleep. The rest goes back to the river.
At 18:12 you shut the laptop even though your guilt wants one more round. At 18:14 the guilt still talks. You let it.
