Richard helpfully explained to me that this is not the national flag of China. It does not represent the Chinese nation or the Chinese people. The red of the Chinese flag represents the Chinese Communist Revolution and the five stars are supposed to represent the ''unity of four social classes of Chinese people under the Chinese Communist Party.'' It is therefore the flag of the communists who murdered 50 million Chinese under Mao and carried out genocide in Tibet. A legitimate target for protest.
