Denaby Main JFC 2-0 AFC Dronfield
The Main got off to a flier, opening the scoring on 5 minutes, a pass was played out to Jordan Pilling on the right, he raced down the wing and in reaching the goal line pulled the ball back where Josh Epton was waiting to stroke the ball into goal for a 1-0 lead. Luke Watson then had an effort at goal after taking control of a long kick out of defence by keeper AJ Nota. At the other end Dronfield had a header on goal after a free kick which AJ Nota dropped low to save before the ball was cleared. There were a number of shots from both teams though these did not trouble either keeper with one from Harrrison Shaw the closest for the Main while for the visitors Dan White saw his shot blocked and deflected for a corner. There followed a dangerous cross from Jordan Pilling but the Dronfield keeper clutched the ball as Josh Epton looked to pounce.
The second period almost had the visitors level in the opening minute and if a defensive tackle can be considered equal to a goal this was it, with Denaby attacking Dronfield cleared long and the pace of the break had the Main struggling, a shot was fired in which AJ saved low down but the ball ran free for a Dronfield forward to sweep the ball into an empty net but from out of nowhere Jack Earp emerged to block this effort, a superb tackle and the ball was cleared. The visitors were seeing some periods of possession without creating any clear opportunities though they did miss a good chance when putting a header wide from a corner. At the other end Sam Yates had a shot deflected and Luke Watson flicked a header which hit a post with the keeper struggling to turn the ball out for a corner.
From a corner Denaby put some clear water between the sides when the diminutive figure of Jordan Pilling timed his run to head towards the near post and beat everyone with a header which nestled into the goal for 2-0, following this James Bytheway headed home from a corner but his effort was ruled out for a push. The game finished with an audacious effort from Ewen Birch, he won the ball in midfield and from 40 yards tried his luck with a shot but saw his effort just go over the bar. A good game for Denaby in which Dronfield also played their part but after last Saturday's disappointment this was a deserved win and a welcome 3 points.
