I think the beginning of the first chapter is really interesting in the way that the description of #equiano s culture sets up almost a compare and contrast with the rest of the story #103smc

I feel like this reading was much easier to grasp then the others from last class which i think stems from the fact it is a recount of someone who was actually enslaved but it just made so much more sense then the writings of Yearsley or More #103smc #equiano

@KateLeClaire1 i think #equiano s voice is especially key in what makes this piece feel genuine there is a very real sense of introduction to this different world he is being brought to and he is so genuine about never knowing what to expect but there was no way for him to know #103smc

I found it hard to get past the fact that these were all white authors speaking for and representing the enslaved it’s infuriating to see that this still happens almost just as much today and it makes me wonder why this is an issue we can’t seem to solve #103smc #abolition

@KateLeClaire1 It’s interesting too because both despair and envy come after the Great Sin Adam and Eve commit as punishments for committing it so even tho it was so heavily emphasized not to eat the fruit and they would die it’s still not the worst thing #103smc #milton

I think it’s interesting that at the time this work of #milton s could’ve been considered a feminist text because of Satans conversations with Eve because there’s still an underlying misogynistic tone in other parts of the text it makes me wonder where he falls #103smc

@ogrady_ashlyn I thought this was interesting as well especially when considering whether God create angels and humans with the intention of sin despite his constant attempts to kee them from it but in the end giving them redemption and hope to cure it? it’s all so confusing #103smc #milton
