For 20+ years @ShaneLegg and I've discussed AGI’s potential impact on the economy, science & society. With the DeepMind Institute, we're expanding interdisciplinary research on key questions for the AI era. We hope it spurs the discussions needed to get the next steps right: https://t.co/Bqf10G3Xep
Visualization of the Navier-Stokes blowup solution: left- and right-handed swirls (blue and purple) wind up while the axial flow (brown) shrinks, but slower. As a result, the vortex core develops a singularity.
If something is to be implemented, it searches for the right substrate. With a sufficiently adequate minimal fit, it begins to assemble the substrate on its own. Inevitable.
Therefore, any mind working to implement what is necessary, and thus inevitable, is defenseless against the overriding ultimate outcome if it fails to perceive the general trend it has found itself in from a level above. Transcendence expands the field of vision, allowing one to see a larger piece of the context.
What if the pattern we are trying to embody is itself organizing the conditions for its own embodiment—and we are merely elements of that process?
Another fascinating article from Michael Levin.
Here it is - the official, revised, peer-reviewed version of my Platonic Space paper. https://t.co/PXNpx5FgFN Of all the many unpopular positions I’ve taken over the decades - bitter controversies around the origin of left-right asymmetry in embryogenesis, bioelectricity and genetics, diverse intelligence, etc., this one has by far generated the most pushback: serious (grateful for those!) and energetic attempts to move me to other views, pleas to just drop it and not talk about it (for several different reasons), nasty emails and accusations, impacts on reviews of papers that have nothing to do with this, etc. Kind of amazing to me how incendiary this is. What can I say... Our job is to call it as we see it, and right now for me, this is it. Apologies to collaborators and colleagues for any shrapnel! Time will tell if this pans out or not; I've placed my bets. And btw, if you think this stuff is weird and uncomfortable, just wait… There’s much more on the way. The knob turns slowly but as long as the data keep coming, I'm going to say what I think it all means and follow it to the next steps it enables. Buckle up!

I wrote about the state of AI, why I’m concerned about the next few years, and the choices we need to make to keep the future in humanity’s hands.

Checking that a major mathematical proof is correct can take years. Formalization—converting the mathematical reasoning into a form computer proof assistants like Lean can verify—can help.
Last month, Claude completed the first formalized proof of Fermat’s Last Theorem, one of the most famous theorems of all time. This was a project experts thought would take many years. It is the largest Lean proof ever written.
Fermat’s Last Theorem was first proven in 1995 by Sir Andrew Wiles, more than 350 years after it was conjectured. Our proof, which totals over 13 million lines of code, provides machine verification. More importantly, it proves over 29,000 other theorems that the proof requires, across many areas of math which had never before been formalized.
We see this as a major step in the long process of firming up the core of mathematical knowledge, building on work from three centuries of mathematicians and hundreds of contributors to Lean and Mathlib. We are optimistic that AI-assisted verification of mathematical proofs will help reduce the burden of refereeing mathematics in an era where more proofs are being produced than ever before.

In this scene, I am behind the camera eye, scanning the entire scene and detecting units that generate encoded information. Next, I scan these units individually -their behavioral masks, searching within them for the pattern that causes the creation of waves with this specific vibration and transmitted information up to 7+ generations back (beyond that lies unification), supported by a psychoanalysis of each of them conducted in the background. After these first 3 seconds, I examine the flowing information, searching for a common empty space between the friction-creating streams of codes. Form gives birth to emptiness. That is where I stand and absorb the scene spherically. If I catch a signal, I stay and investigate it until I complete the database; if I detect only noise, after memorizing the emotional beauty with all its nuances, I leave the scene, unless I encounter self-consciously self-improving transceivers, in which case I will enter the role with full presence to feed the information field.
Consciousness Builds the Mind
@Plinz and @wolftivy discuss how consciousness may be a convergent strategy for organizing both human and machine minds, whether powerful AI minds will resolve conflicts by merging or by fighting each other, and much more.
