As a Greek, I was introduced to Homer almost as soon as I learned to read. His epics are among the first great works we encounter at school, and they remain a living part of our cultural consciousness.
Given that, I really don't care whether Christopher Nolan has remained completely faithful to Homer or has taken creative liberties.
What truly matters is that he has brought Homer back into the world's imagination. If his film encourages people to return to the Odyssey, discover the Iliad, or venture further into the treasures of classical literature, then it has already accomplished something extraordinary. Any work of art that sends people back to the source has, in my view, made a genuine contribution to culture.
29 years ago this week, Alanis Morissette went to #1 on the US chart with Jagged Little Pill, on the way to selling 36 million copies. She was nominated for 9 Grammys, winning 5, including Album of the Year, making her at the time the youngest artist in history to win the honor.
I just dropped my 14 year old son off at high school.
I’m sad and I’m mad and I am sick and fucking tired of feeling the anxiety I feel right now.
What’s he wearing?
Make sure you memorize it.
Just in case…
What the fuck are we doing?
We do not have to live this way.
We don’t.
I just overheard someone say “I’m not voting for Kamala Harris because she is a woman, I’m voting for Kamala Harris because I AM a woman”
This needs to be said more.
Rewatching Jaws and man, it’s obviously all just the greatest but this moment is really getting me tonight. No one else would stop to put something this lovely in their killer shark movie
