We're building something important at Tornado Talk, and we'd love for you to be part of it.
The Virtual Tornado Memorial is our ongoing project to identify and document the more than 22,000 people who have lost their lives in U.S. tornadoes.
This work goes far beyond compiling a list of names. We're digging through historical newspapers, death records, cemetery records, and other sources to piece together the stories of individuals and families affected by these storms.
We're also working with students and volunteers, visiting archives, and connecting with communities across the country.
There's an enormous amount of research ahead, and there are many ways to help, from sharing historical information to supporting the research itself.
Learn more about what we're building and how you can get involved.

@mclr4n I had a cat and two dogs. The dogs has since passed away, but the cat and the dogs were mutual acquaintances. (not outright friends because the cat is not exactly sociable towards other dogs or cats). Wendy might get along with Benjamin since he’s the friendliest.

South A. Tornado Alley.
South American Tornado Alley is made up of two main hotspots: one in the La Plata Basin in Argentina, and another in southern Brazil, with the latter experiencing more intense and more frequent tornadoes than the La Plata Basin.

Lorenzo Salgado Araujo spent 35 years building his life in America. He was a father of three with no criminal record. ICE shot and killed him.
His family deserves answers. We need a full, independent investigation, and those responsible must be held accountable.
Hard to believe Taylor got married awhile after I did! Welcome to the club! I may have seem to be under a rock, but that’s not the case, I just been in the hospital back and forth. Fatty liver disease can escalate even without alcohol!
The important thing to remember: outlook categories (Level 1-5: Marginal, Slight, Enhanced, Moderate, High) are not changing! A High risk in 2026 means the same thing as a High risk in 2025. Only now we can graphically show where we expect the most intense storms.
The outlooks for wind and hail probabilities are similar. The new intensity groups allow for higher resolution information for expected intensity of the severe event. The underlying probability lines continue to indicate expected coverage of each hazard.
Let's look at some examples for past outlooks, & how they would look under this new intensity paradigm. In this tornado outlook, the old 10% hatched area is on the left. In the new intensity outlook (right), more detail is given showing where strongest tornadoes are expected.
The old 10% Significant hazard outline is being replaced by three intensity levels (two for hail). These thresholds are not tied to a probability. They are our best estimate of what the maximum hazard intensity could be based on expected storm mode and environmental parameters.
