In the past couple days in the wnba, a team owner had to apologize for bullying two young girls at a game, a fan was caught on camera bullying those same two girls, another fan of that same team was caught on camera spitting on a fan of another team, two big name players were caught on camera placing bets on their own game against each other, and one of those players openly admitted to said bet in the post game. And no one within WNBA media is talking about any of it. I guess no one cares unless they can find a way to blame it on Caitlin Clark.

He is the all time hits leader with 4,256.

Rose was banned from MLB for life for betting on games, including those he played in.

He died at 83 without ever being reinstated or inducted into the hall of fame.

Angel Reese just admitted to doing the exact same thing.

But, instead of giving her a Rose-style punishment, the WNBA scrubbed evidence from the internet and downplayed the seriousness.

Why is Angel Reese being given a free pass by the woke WNBA?

A question for every sportsbook currently accepting wagers on WNBA games:

What exactly are bettors supposed to believe now?

The WNBA published video appearing to show Angel Reese and Paige Bueckers making a cash wager connected to a game in which both players could influence the result.

Cash was visible.

After the game, Reese publicly referenced checking Apple Pay to make sure Bueckers had paid.

The WNBA’s own labor agreement prohibits players from wagering directly or indirectly on any aspect of a WNBA competition.

The league’s response?

Delete the video.

Call it “lighthearted.”

Handle it internally.

Remind the players that betting conversations can have consequences.

But announce no meaningful discipline, no independent investigation, and no detailed integrity review.

That response does not protect bettors.

It protects the league from immediate embarrassment.

Sportsbooks aggressively monitor customers for suspicious activity. Accounts can be limited, wagers reviewed, and funds delayed over conduct operators consider unusual.

So why should active players receive less scrutiny than the people placing the bets?

Did the sportsbooks examine every market connected to this game?

Did they review live betting, player props, scoring margins, turnovers, fouls, substitutions, and late-game activity?

Did the WNBA disclose the incident before the video became public?

Were gaming regulators notified?

What additional protections are being implemented?

Because the league has now damaged the basic assumption underneath every WNBA wager:

That the players themselves do not have money riding on the outcome.

The WNBA’s lack of public discipline also creates a precedent that future players can cite when challenging punishment for similar conduct.

The gambling industry cannot demand complete trust from bettors while remaining silent when a league treats apparent participant wagering as a joke.

You cannot sell confidence in a market the league itself has made harder to trust.
