Thank goodness for King Charles. Considering the deep peril faced by people & Nature it’s encouraging that at least one world leader is articulating a fit for purpose perspective. His words galvanised action in Paris in 2015 & hopefully will again now. https://t.co/jerMwLOAzX
With even more weather warnings for the northern Pennines ‘Hannah Hauxwell Last Winter’ comes to mind, the lone farmer from Baldersdale, the subject of some 50+ Peter Brook paintings, struggling every year to survive in the face of extreme conditions on her farm at Low Birk Hatt.
A huge congratulations to @RobStoneman, one of our founders, who has been given a presitigious award by @WildlifeTrusts for his dedication to the advancement of nature conservation within the British Isles.

A new report 'The Future of Vegetable Production on Lowland #Peat' has just been published, looking at how land use changes can be carefully planned to protect peat carbon stores with continued vegetable production. You can read it here: https://t.co/qtEX9ZknYY

The #NaturesHolme Team hosted an Access Workshop last week, where they gathered opinions and ideas from a range of stakeholders to help identify access improvement priorities along various routes across the catchment. The team will share findings in the near future. @HolmeRiver
Great to see this just imagine the outcome if the recent flood defence had not been put in place. Extensive restoration works to the blanket bogs above also reducing the flood peaks. Landowners, Utilities, National Park and NGO’s making a difference together @moorsforfuture
During #StormBabet, the River Derwent reached record-high levels.
The flood defence wall we finished reinstating this year, protected 50 homes and businesses in Matlock from flooding.
This is just one of around 76,000 flood assets #TeamEA maintain across England.
Monday washing appears in all weathers in Peter Brook’s paintings, with ‘Bitter Cold - Chapel Street’, a large wintry portrayal of Sowerby Bridge, perhaps the most striking, the traditional lines of laundry blowing in what must have been a bone-chilling wind. (@HuddsArtGallery)
Just looking at trends in greenhouse gas emissions & reminded that globally it’s now about 60% up on 1992, the year the UN treaty was first agreed in Rio, with 2022 reaching the highest level ever. To say we are not on track is more than understatement.

Its #BogDay this Sunday! Bogs are rare and special habitats that are irreversibly damaged by peat extraction for horticulture. Thankfully there are now many peat free alternatives that can deliver fantastic results for growers! Learn more here:

Incredible video. Afghan dad jokingly says school is only for boys. Watch his remarkable daughter - who can’t be more than 5 or 6 years old - respond with these arguments.
Afghan girls have been denied access to schools and universities. This little girl's courage represents the collective voice of countless Afghan girls who yearn for equal educational opportunities.
As an advocate for girls' education the father's teasing is simply to highlight an important message: that the Taliban - another backward regime - are harming the people of his country.
It’s time the world is done with them.
Ditto the “Islamic” Republic in Iran #regime
Did you know that the @UK_CEH estimate that UK #Peatlands contain approximately 3.2 billion tons of carbon! When in good condition they lock away carbon from the atmosphere for millennia. Unfortunately 80% of the UKs peatlands are degraded turning them in to carbon emitters 1/2
Our @PeakPark_PPCV conservation volunteers were joined recently by @BarclaysUK for another corporate volunteer day in the #GoytValley.
Despite the challenging weather at times 🌧️ they really got stuck in and made the most of the event. Thank you to everyone who participated. 🙏
